SI cage

Anyone else have this problem with there SI cage.

In all the tubes it is very tight to get a socket in, i had to grind down a socket to get it to even fit and not get stuck.

Well in the middle tube (front motor mounts) i cant even tighten the bolts anymore without the socket getting stuck anymore I had this problem since I got it.

On one side I cant even get the socket to the bolt anymore.

The cage isnt bent, i pushed a screw driver through the tube and it shifts from where they welded those tubes together.

Hard to explain but yea..

Re: SI cage

sometimes I have a socket get stuck in the part where the 2 cage halves come together up front. But if I tighten that bolt first then do the other 4 I have no problems.

I did have a generic cheap socket not fit into the tubes like you mentioned, but if I use my craftsman or snap-on tools I have no problem. If you are still having problems look into getting some thin walled sockets.

Re: SI cage

luckily for me the only place I had to use a socket was on the very front. But yea the socket does go in there tight. Like the guy above said all the cheapo ones I couldnt get to fit but a Snap On went right in there...

The other bolts on my bike I used a 10mm Allen bolt...lot easier IMO..

Re: SI cage

I use allen head bolts too....works perfect, I used em on the lower mount too, just put a washer on it and a long flat head screw driver to keep the nut from spinning. thats until I cut the lower portion of the cage off cause it was hitting in the corners while.....um.....taking corners with the .....um......nice people with flashing lights behind me....haha.

I think this is the best help.... Make sure your getting everything started before you go making any tight...

Re: SI cage

Just put mine on the hardware they supplied had a standard allen? did anyone else think that was weird? I thought about waiiting for my sockets to just vibe loose a couple of times but finally got them out. I also grinded down a generic socket cause I was having trouble with the rear mount not the front or lower. i finally grinded enough material ( Iguess) to do it. also if you dont follow those directions on the web site that SHizzle doesnt wanna line up right so id follow those directions fo sho

Re: SI cage

tighten your ****, then push your bike on its side and hit the cage with a hammer where the socket is stuck, worked a treat for me

Re: SI cage

ya, my snap-on got stuck too...but i eventually got it out. switch to either flange head bolts or allen head bolts and you won't have that problem. Ian ships them now with allen's for the motor mounts, but the rear mount and front mount on f4i are still a little tight. easy fix is using a flanged nut on the rear (all thread area) and then using a flanged nut and flanged bolt on the front lower mount. shouldn't have a problem fitting then.
