high speed wobble

I have a 2004 F4I. Everytime I land a wheelie doing over 50mph the bike wobbles extremly violently. The bike never done it before. Any suggestions? It only started doing it when I put a new front tire on it (tomahawk). Has anyone else had problems with these brand of tire? or is it just me?

Re: high speed wobble

when the shop balanced the tire it was one of those old tire balancers and not a electronic one, do you think the tire being slightly off balance could be the problem? Also what do you guys think of shindy dampers, I see the dial on it dosen't tell what position it's in, just wondering if it works good or not.

maybe, if u havnt had a damper b4 and it never did that then it may be the problem, although u shud still invest in a damper as a means of clearin the problem if it isnt (the tire). have u recently been going to that shop that uses the old method?

Re: high speed wobble

dont go there since they balance tires that way but it was late on a saturday
and needed a tire to ride on the first nice day of the season. I think I will buy a damper (would like to hear some feedback on a shindy damper) and then if the problem isin't corrected I will have the tire rechecked or replaced if I have to. Front tire pressure is 32psi. has anyone on here ever ran tomahawks?

Re: high speed wobble

What is your psi at? you want it around 28 or so.... Tire balancing isn't it, that only really makes a differance at 90+ mph. I have a shindy on my 900. got it for $150 and I'm very happy with it. I don't have any experiance with rotary dampers like GPR or Scotts, but it's a LOT better than nothing. I set it to the lightest setting cruising around town and just twist it up 3, 4 or 5 (out of 7) when I'm ready to rock ****, depending on what I'm doing. How it feels is more important than what number you're on. Also, I don't know about the F4i, but I had to grind some off the fork tube clamp for it to be able to swing full lock to lock with contacting the frame or the damper itself. You have to get the height on the forktube for the clamp just right, at least on the 900RR.

Re: high speed wobble

the shinndy isn't bad at all, plus it's the only one your gonna find for that price.the rods on them bend so make sure if you buy a used one that it's strait and doesn't bind at any point.your problem is your coming down crooked and with the new tire it's still round and not worn in yet is my thought.
