F4i, motor mount stripped, drill out and nut/bolt?

My motor mount is stripped out, ebay cage stripped the aluminum threads right out of the motor.

I got a sick innovations on the way.. Now I need to drill it out so I can nut/bolt it..

What size bolt should I use, and what size drill bit should I drill my motor out with?

i'd rather just put a nut on, that way I dont have to find someone to tap it, or buy a tap kit

im cheap, saving for 929 forks and a damper

k but when it vibrates loose and you cant reach the nut to tighten it remember this: "I told you so"

Then fix it right.

Drill and retap to a bigger size
Helicoil it
or
Have it heliarc welded shut and the redrilled and tapped back to the normal size.

Tightening that nut would be a pain in the ***. Perhaps you could weld it onto the back of the motor mount?

Id just go with a helicoil personally they usually seem to work pretty good and its like 20 dollars at an autoparts store for a kit.

Re: F4i, motor mount stripped, drill out and nut/bolt?

you can also just buy one drill bit just big enough to clean up the hole and then buy one tap ......that would be pretty cheap

Re: F4i, motor mount stripped, drill out and nut/bolt?

put a nut on the back of it.. thats what i did on my f41... i just got a longer motormount bold a nut, and lock washer (yeah...lockwashers WORK) i like that my 636 allready uses a nut, and it has a cradle on the back of the motor to hold your nut for you :YEAH stick the nut in the hole, and it holds it in place for you :YEAH to hell with REtapping it, and then it just stripping out again, but this time you got even a bigger hole. helicores work... til you take the bolt out

Re: F4i, motor mount stripped, drill out and nut/bolt?

that same exact thing happened to me.. i was redoing my f4 and my motormount bolt broke from my 905 cage bending so bad so i had to drill it out and i tried to take a ez out to it.. ya snapped that right in it.. so i drilled it out to where the original bolt is mostly gone and i put a longer grade 8 bolt in there and with a sticker on the back side of my wrench to hold the nut in place in the wrech i can remove and put the nut on the bolt w/o having to remove the carbs.. i'm not sure how easy it is to get to on the f4i but its a bitch on my f4.. hope that helps

I didn't even think about a lock washer.

I bet with a lock washer + nylon lock nut + lok tite i'd be good

I think I remember reading somewhere that you can take the radiator off, and the nuts are easily accessible

Re: F4i, motor mount stripped, drill out and nut/bolt?

There is no prob geting to the nuts.I have put a lot of nuts and bolts in motor mounts.Never have to worry about it agian.Have never put new threads in it.Always happened on the 929's.Maybe i was just rougher on them then. But dont go over bored with lock tight and stuff.it isnt going anywhere.Just lock nuts and washers do the trick. But give her a check every now and then.
