The oil-cooled motors are really tough. The whole bike is really. I was 2 down and 2 up on my 89 750 and it would wheelie in third with no clutch. One thing to look out for is that the subframe is welded to the frame so if you loop it you could be fu(ked. My 89 had all kinds of power. 101 HP at the rear wheel. It also has a short wheelbase so that helps too. I don't know about stability in a wheelie though. I can't wheelie for **** so I can't help you there. They are fun bikes but I just sold mine to get something newer. I have a spare engine for the short stroke 750's which is 1988-89. There is a bearing gone in the bottom end and I know nothing about the top end but if you need parts let me know.

Oil cooled GSXR's are the bikes that broke stunt riding on a large scale. They're dated, and heavy but are bulletproof for the most part. I would stay away from the 87, 88 models, they have weaker engines and two piece frames, but 89 thru 92 work great. Another bike to look at is the Suzuki Bandit. They are really popular in the UK and you can pick up a late model for around 3 g's. Again they aren't as agile as a modern GSXR or CBR but if you can stunt a heavy bike switching to a newer lighter bike will be a joke. Just my

It's alot cheaper generally to find parts for older GSXR's since most people have moved on to newer bikes. But alot of them still have spares from the older bikes laying around and no big market for them. I myself have a swingarm, footpegs, seat, sprockets, and some body work among other things for a 92 GSXR 1100 taking up space in my garage. As far as what goes wrong , it's like anything else, if a bike is beat to death then you will have problems. Mainly tranny problems like bent shift forks. Also check for blown fork seals and bent forks. With a little work I'm sure you could find a good example for under 3 g's.
