GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
Okay im sure this has been asked before and I could probably dig around for an old thread, but what is the best cage for an 05 GSXR 600? Also wondering about best 12 bar and sprocket. Whats a good size sprocket for starting out? Anyways any help would be great.
Re: GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
i have a powers and the thing is rock solid. It has pancaked from 12 twice and took countless lowsides and get off's. If your just learning, the FI 12 bar is a good choice. Thats what i started with, now im runnning powers 12 bar because its shorter. As for sprockets 10 over stock is good for your bike once you have gotten used to balance point. I started out 1 down in the front and moved to 10 over when i got used to balance point.
and search this forum for the A-frame subframe support. Its the one i used and I havent dusted a subframe yet (knock on wood)
get braided brake lines and run dot 4 or better brake fluid.
hope this helps.

Re: GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
Running a F.I. 12 bar moved in about an 1 1/2 puts it right at 12. I have run a freestyle type cage. I would say also stay away from them until you get really good. They bend real easy. Going with a powers now and I broke a few subframes doing stoppies and scraping, just brace front rearsets to pass pegs and your prolly ok there. Make sure and mod the crankcase vent before you have an airbox full of oil, or a lot of smoke. Also they say an oil pickup is a must have item! I am running stock front sprockets and 60 in rear. Love the setup!
Re: GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
The oil pickup is a definite must have ive already smoked one motor without it. I have a 905 cage and have dropped the bike hundreds of times and its solid. the subframe is a problem though and Ive cracked the frame and had it welded 3 times

Thats cool , I'd love 2 take look at your picture.
Re: GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
Thats stupid yea the will replace it but it will cost you 100 dollars to do so......could almost buy another type of cage that WONT break and you WONT need a lifetime warranty......im gonna say this agian....
TYGERSKARK SUCK!!!!

:w hoopass: Re: GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
That looks awesome! ill post pics of my reinforcement when I get home I just took an FI 12 bar and made a skeleton around the outside of the subframe and made it tie to itself and bolt to the frame its a tad heavy but its a TANK.
I just built a r6s subframe for my friend and realized it was no harder than my brace so Im just gonna build a steel subframe in a few weeks should be pretty sick

Re: GSXR Cages, Bars, Etc
Thanks!!! That's Version 1 of the method I used. Since then I've gone to a thinner material to not add too much thickness/width to the subframe. It's very strong. I slipped off the brake, gas'ed it, and it slammed back on the bar so hard it bent the bar, but did not crack the subframe.... I'm happy with it. I do my upper stays with the same kind of reinforcement.
It's much less time consuming to buy an aftermarket steel one. I just hated the way they looked. So I modified the stock one.
Version 2 has thinner plating and some added support in a couple areas that never broke, but I saw stress cracks forming. The 06+ I've done two ways. I've made a solid subframe from the three pieces after plating, and plated the three pieces, then bolted them together, like stock. Either method works great.
