Question about 900RR power ???
I have a question about 900 RR's ..........
My boy just bought a 1996 RR that has a bunch of mods ... full exhaust, jet kit, 4 up in the rear sprocket, k&n and around 15k miles .......... the bike runs strong and tight ... but his question is about his clutch and since I dont own a RR I have no idea ............
When hes rolling in 2nd gear at around 5-5500 rpm and snaps the clutch up to around 9000 rpm ... the front tire doesn't come off the ground at all... it will if he yanks on the bars hard but if he try's it with just the clutch and no assistance theres not even a power wheelie ........... so...........
I think it might be the clutch but I have never ridden a RR before.... does this sound right for a RR or is the clutch probably toasted ??
any advice will help ....
Thx

sounds like technique rather then a power issue, I bet he's leaning fwd.. I know pulling on the clips theoreticaly doesnt do jack but its more of a momentum thing, getting your body ready to allow the bike to come up opposed to fighting it, also dont let up on throttle after you dump, keep the rpms comin.
been ridin rrs my whole life, had six - 97 and on, could be a power issue, but with 4 up in the rear that thing should snap up, does the rpm sipke when you dump it? i would agree with the tequnique thing, i kinda gracefully fan my clutch, never dump it, tell him to try sitting back on the seat a little, dont hump the tank, and try extending your arms, dont bend elbows so much, as far as the clutch, i have had clutches with shattered plates before, they didnt slip, but i could just feel the difference in power, this would always happen when i had a OEM clutch, i have had better luck with barnett, but with stock springs, i hate that stiff clutch feel.
