Stoppies are rock solid and in my opinion, a bit more weight is better for the guy on the highways and back roads as opposed to the parking lot slayer...Better have your throttle hand dialed in. This bike will spit you off the back if you disrespect her. Probably one of the best bikes to streetfighter or street stunt. The 1000 is for guys that want to tell everyone they have a 1000. Good Drag bikes, straight liners and stock gearing for 186mph runs. If that doesn't appeal to you, don't consider it. 954 is probably without a doubt in my opinion the PERFECT machine. Compact, light, powerful, great stoppies, wheelies, and that sound. Is there anything better sounding than clutching up a 954?
bueatifully said... 100% accurate in everyway, but you forgot to mention how much fun it is to scrape the undertail exhuast
stoppies are amazing on the bike but spreaders **** *** hardcore

Im sellin the plastics...$250 obo (06' ninja)
My x bf took the plastics off his bike so I could stunt. I flipped the bike clutchin it up & totaled the bike out so he doesnt have any need for the plastics. They are spray painted (black). I did drop the bike 2 times at a dead stop w/ plastics. Air head moment. So $250 obo & its your. I am about 30 min form orlando. You pick up or we meet. E-mail me at sexysport969@yahoo.com. I am new at this so dont get mad if I posted this in the wrong spot but me and my sister are new at this...thanks oh yeah and they go to a 2006 ninja 650 is what a dude told me...

Back to the topic...
I started with a CBR F2. I totaled it after three months. Newbie mistake... It was lame, but it could have been worse... If I started with a new bike, it would have cost soooo much more money. EVERYONE crashes while they learn. Why make it cost more $! Start with a used bike, period.
I was in your shoes back when I started. I thought the 600 would not be fast enough. Trust me it was plenty fast. I only stepped up to the 954 after I could handle it & I should have kept riding a 600 longer. 6500 Miles later & a bunch of close calls, I can handle it. (Maybe...) Just like you I had read all the posts about people telling me to buy a 250 or ex500. I rejected it all. I know what you feel like. Try not to be stubborn. Listen to these people here. (They talk truth.
) (FYI: My pal on his EX500 can out corner 600s & 1000s all day!)Look up the local MSF Course (MotorcycleSafetyFoundation) and take it. (Insurance may be cheaper, it was for me) It will start you in the right direction. I took the course after I crashed the F2... Big mistake. Should have taken the course first...
I don't think you can insure a bike with a suspended license. Will they even let you get a learners permit while your suspended?
If your license is gone because you drove like a dumb ***, you are in for a world of hurt. Physically & financially. A car will forgive dumb *** driving & its mistakes. Try that on a bike & you can or will die. Thats the truth.
I wanted a bike when I was 16. Good thing I waited... I drove like a dumb *** & made many mistakes. If I had a bike when I was 16 I would be dead.
I'm 28 now & I am a motorcycle newbie. I have about 10 months experience riding total. Many people would be correct in saying I shouldn't ride a big bike yet. They are probably right. If I had a 600 I might just be a better ryder right now.
Sorry for the long winded reply , but I can go on forever regarding this one...:YEAH
(What ever you do, don't start with new!)

If you got experience riding bikes and are looking for a bigger bike there is no better than the 954. Insurance could be better because it won't be a brand new bike. I believe the insurance companies don't group it with the 1000's. I don't remember where I heard this, but ask your insurance company.
Why the 954 is so good is due to the shorter wheelbase combined with a ton of power. It is basically a 600 with a bigger engine. The bike is a wheelie beast and that is before it is geared. When you gear it, the bike begs you to wheelie it all the time. Stoppies are really easy too, just get yourself a good steering dampner because that is the only thing this bike lacks. And yeah nothing sounds better than clutching up a 954! Its awesome.
Like some of the other responses don't run from the cops bro! It's not worth it. A friend of mine just lost somebody he rode with last weekend because he ran.
