Shoes or boots for skitching

What does everyone wear? I figured skating shoes like vans or airwalks would probably be better cause they have very flat bottoms compared to workboots or something.
Although sneakers offer absolutely no ankle protection.

Lightbulb

You will obviously want a pair of shoes with the THICKEST sole. I prefer the work boots called "Big Macs" the steel toed shoe. If you saw my shoes you would understand the usefullness of the steel toe.

As long as they have a thick sole they should be fine. You always want to have a seperate pair of shoes just for ridding. If you plan on skitching then you could eaisly go through at least 2-3 pairs of shoes a year....something else to think about.

Don't wear Doc Martins. I skitched with those one time and melted all the tread in one ride.

I'd recommend against steel toe for safety reasons. Steel has memory. If that steel gets crushed, your little piggies get crushed with it.

There's a reason that roadracing boots don't have steel toes.

i have a pair of lowtop flat bottom adidas shoes that i love, the problem is after 3 times they are almost worn through. I made some plates that strap onto my feet out of diamond plate...works real good and slides better, you do'nt have to worry about that hot friction or you feet grabbing the pavement like on shoes.

plates will get hot, give 'em time. Throw sparks for 1/4 mile, they'll get hot, throw 'em for another 1/4 mile, it'll start warming up your shoes. Hop back on the bike with rubber coated footpegs, and you'll get stuck to 'em.

ya, they will get hot, but it's better than ruining shoes once a week....plus 1/4 mile of skiing is a lot further than what i could do on my shoes. my shoes get warm after about 100 yards.

Anything but Docs! I wear a pair ShaSha's and they're doing great! Lowtops though so no ankle protection.
