high idle
high idle
im starting to rock slow wheelies and was wandering if a higher idle is going to help it seems like i use too much throttle and am on the brake hard to keep it from looping. im riding an 04 gsxr do you think the idle might make it a little less choppy since i wouldnt be so twitchy on the throttle. i dont chop the throttle but after bring it up it feels like i have all throttle or none. thanks
Re: high idle
basically idle wheelies when you're learning you'll have it a little high and it will pull backwards you will need to scrub the brake to keep it stable
but when you get good at them an idle wheelie (for most people some still do it hte beginner way really high) the idle is barely pulling and you dont really have to use much brake at all

Re: high idle
It also depends on what gearing your running yours looks stock in your avatar.. I do mine between 2,500 and 3,000 - but since your learning I'd say you should run about 3,500. the higher idle forces you to use and learn brake control.
From about a dead stop, 1st gear, clutch up to the bp and go "completely off the throttle" and catch it with the brake. If it falls back on 2 wheels right away you didn't clutch it up high enough or you hit the brake too soon. If you go on the bar, well... you forgot the brake or hit it too late. Somewhere in the middle of those 2 is where you should be.
