a thought about vid editing
this comes on the heels of the discussion about doing shows for what the crowd wants, what about what they want to see in videos. there is a definate trend toward fast paced, short flashy clips, lots of special effects,, ect ect.... anyway my friend was over(non-rider) and he said he likes all the slower movies better because they let him see the whole trick and it's not cut off or distorted. has anyone else heard this from people that don't ride?? i've heard this from a couple other people too. just wanted to get everyones opinion on this, and what other people have told you...
personally i like the high energy and face pace, i just hope it doesn't get so fast and flashy we start giving people seziures.

you have to have both but if the clips gets to long ive noticed that people get bored a person doing a wheelie for 40 sec kind of gets boring try taping a 5-8 mile wheelie and have people watch it they are going to get bored. what realy makes a good video is mixing and matching of clips dont put 15 wheelies right in a row
also even though people buy the videos to see the stunting a video gets realy old quick if theres not other things in it
just my 2 sens

the trend will be a movie that doesn't have that "home made" look. we are trying to take this sport to the next level, and advanced editing that coincides w/ the music, event, trick, etc... is gonna be a key factor in selling a lot of vids.
look at "Servin' It Up" from Darius240z.com, it is one of the top sellers and it was edited in a fashion that makes you watch the whole movie again and again.
there is a catch to quick clip vids though. riders that aren't as skilled as others can make it look as if they were god. i.e. slowing down clips to make it look like you got blocks, or not showing the not so pretty landing, or hiring the sickest video crew ever and pull ga abage wheelies that look cool cuz of the angle, etc...
i haven't seen a vid like this yet, but i know there coming.
riders will be able to tell who's got what, but the MILLIONS of other viewers may give more credit or support to not so talented riders. we'll see.

The development of this thread is of great interest to me. My team is beginning to edit our first footage for a vid and we are somewhat devided as to the best way to do this. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
i showed dte 2 tonight to a bunchof non riders and they liked how i edited it. You have to do both ..short and long cuts... totally depends on the footage and the MUSIC. A lot of editors dont edit enough to the music and hopefully people will like the way I did DTE2 because thats what i tried to do. Music comes first and then you gotta play with it.

we just finished our second vid, and we've shown it to about 30 or so people and they love it. its mostly long stuff, some slow stuff, and some comedy stuff. seems to me on everyones reaction that they all liked the long stuff and laughed at the funny stuff. not to much intrest in the slow stuf. "oh my god, he's still up on one wheel?" thats most of the reactions.
As far as trick photography, it can be done, but who wants to see someone coming down from a wheelie(unless they crash)so you just edit it into the next clip. you can slow the footage down to look good but if you look you can tell and sometimes it doesn't look good at all.
