Icon...Let Down
Re: Icon...Let Down
watch No Limit's "Get On Up II" and you will see a good friend of mine Nick Gonzales doing an elevator at 50 mph get spooked and go over the bars bike runs him over not without dragging him a lil bit and he gets right up and has no injuries by the way i almost forgot he was wearing a ti-max ICON jacket i currently have 2 icon jackets that have been crashed in at 80+ mph and still have all of my skin from those two but also have an alpinestars jacket that i crashed at 60mph and ended up with a fair amount of rash bottom line if you can tuck and roll youll probably be ok in whatever you wear.

Re: Icon...Let Down
I wouldn't take icon gear when it was offered to me for free, from parts Canada. Partially because of how parts Canada screwed over one of my buddies shops, but also i hate when i look around at the bike nights and see nothing but squids that can't power wheelie 50 feet to save their lives decked out in all this icon **** pretending they are something specail.. Its sick..
Re: Icon...Let Down
yeah it is nauseating. but it comes with it. what about the guys that order stuntragz **** cause they watched mtv's **** on kyle woods and the brunelles? same thing. i'm a parts unlimited dealer and i sell a shitload of icon stuff. i myself have a nexx unlimited jacket. just because i don't want to rock the same **** everyone else does, or my customers do for that matter.

I don't get it what the **** does it matter if its Icon or not. The make some shitty gear just like everyone. Alpinestars what ever. I think its just a matter of personal tase and what you feel is adquate protection. Just because you bought a 400 dollar jacket with armor and all that does mean **** when you go down with no helmet. And The majorty of Icons stuff and Alpinestars and all that hold up fine.
Just because noobs are wearing the stuff to pose as bikers doent mean anything. Big deal so they wear a jacket and act like they are something at the club. Thats usualy the time a chick comes up and says what do you have. They say a gixxer 750 of course and then you get the token yeah I have done about 205 with some to go. And you know they are full of ****.
you go down in a mesh jacket you could get ****ed up. its something you wear when its hot or your heading to the quick mart or whatever. You and the boys decide your going to tear it up on the twisties you beter be putting on some leather. Look at all the guys in Moto Gp nothing but ****ing cow *** on all of em. Why? Cause it works as it has since the 20's and board track racing. Want protection get leather. want good protecting spend money.
You want want a cool looking jacket to hit the set on and look cool on the bike then know that that is the level of protection you have. And ride accordingly.

Re: Icon...Let Down
I have an Icon ti-max mesh jacket. I've been down in it 2 times at pretty good speeds and 1 time not so fast. It didnt tear or leave me with any rash. and i still use it to this day. I like em and i would reccomend them

You start bashin one of his sponsors he's had for awhile and you think he'd stay quite for long?
Icon, alpinestars, and many more companies do a lot and go out of their way to help out this "sport" so I don't have a problem buying their stuff and supporting them.
Jayseal22 said it, with anything, there is good products and bad with each company. You can't judge how well a jacket(or whatever else) will do in the event of a wreck just by looking at it. Even someone saying "mine ripped" doesn't mean your's will because no 2 accidents are exactly the same.
You also can't blame squids that can't ride a wheelie to save their life for wanting to wear the same stuff as the pro's. Do you(to everyone) freak out @ people in the YMCA, or wherever, if they're wearing jersey's of their favorite athletes? Everyone starts somewhere and if you know anything about riding, stunting, racing, etc, and are decent you'll know the BS'er's when you see an talk to them and it shouldn't be hard to show 'em up if need be. With motorcycles, the squids and people that jus aren't made for it, generally get weeded out eventually, ie wrecking and getting scared or even unfortunately killed...so don't sweat it if a bunch of tools have the same **** as you.
MotoGP'rs wear kangaroo skin anymore..
Re: Icon...Let Down
i think there is three catagorys why people wear certin gear.. One pecause of the politics if it all when you are sponcered, in which case everyone that wears that gear will stick up for it even if they know its "crap". Two because they think its "cool" cuz everyone else wears it. Or three because they actually like the fit and how it looks.. We got people here arguing amust eachother, and no one is really going to be right because people like their gear for different reasons... Its not a shocker to me that Britton says icon is the shyt... Wether he really thinks that or not, he is going to say that. Ill agree that icon and alpinestars are doing good things for this sport and shouln't slammed for that.. But we are talking about quality of gear not,, what the company's are doing for this sport...
Re: Icon...Let Down
And also if Icon has all the squids wearing their gear then their goal in this market is complete.. Why do you as a professional rider wear gear ? Why do they give it to you for free ? Sooo that all the squids, moms, dads, everyone will buy it, because they see you wearing it..
Re: Icon...Let Down
or 4, if it does everything that the rider wants it to<- the reason I bought my icon gear.
Shin/knee guards= I was tired of my shins getting beat up and figured it'd be good protection for the knees as well, which it did.
Burner jacket= I was getting cold riding to work and I needed a nice(style I like, doesn't mean everyone likes it) warm jacket, soo this one worked great for me. Plus I got a good deal on it.
I am a dealer for basically anything street, motox, atv, an jetski. I don't like all the products I sell, example Icon helmets, but I'll always stand behind stuff that worked for and saved me.
In the end it's pretty much all about $$. If Icon wants to gear their stuff towards squids and they're making plenty of $$ off of it then good for them. Maybe the biggest thing next to asscar in this country(far as racing goes) is motox. It's a HUGE industry and sponsors will put their name on anyone who's good jus so amatures will buy the same gear.
I'll prolly never be sponsored for anything so I'll have to continue buying stuff that I think, or does, work good for me riding street and dirt. But I'll be sure to ask and do some research on what's the best before I spend what little money I have on it.

Re: Icon...Let Down
almost forgot...sponsored people will say their stuff is good even if there's better products out there. Why wouldn't they?? It's part of their job and or contract/deal with that company. For anyone who's workin the 40hr/week full time job would you say no I won't do this or that, that is part of your job to the man that writes your checks?
