At what point ?
At what point ?
At what point does you ridding stop becoming "fun" and start becoming more of a buisness and "work".. Ive just been going threw threads here and they guys that are on top now it seems are so buisy handling buisness that they are not even ridding that much anymore. Ie Kyle Woods, he says it himself in one of those video's.. Ive been told soo many times that ridding is just the fun part of all of this when you want to make it a carrer, but up untill now all i have been focusing is on my ridding and sponcers and shows just came to me without any work at all.. You see guys like kane who just a few years ago couldnt whuulie much at all and now he has made it, got his own website, making deals, doing shows all over.. So how do you change from being just an average joe stunter to someone that can make a living at it.. Do you need to be more of a buisness man or does your ridding alone carry you along ?

I know I haven't had a real job(well, that's what my dad sais) in over a year and 1/2. In that time, my sole source of income is from the website(online sales and advertising), booking and doing shows, and producing my first video(theXperience: Mexico).
However, it took over 2 years of putting everything on the line, and working 2 jobs to make that happen..... so, am I one of the four.... lol
Re: At what point ?
You liven at home or are you paying rent or a motarge with your income?
I see Darious, Todd Colbert, Cory from D-ACE's and Kyle Woods as the guys making an income from it. Sounds to me like you may have put more into it then the dollar amount you got from it.
Don't get me wrong what you have put into it is no small thing and I don't know maybe you're makeing a profit. If so Awsome!!! As you know it's not easy and you could probly make more mowing lawns for a living.

but, you know what, I love doing what I do, and it's my job...... and will take the ride until it ends....

Re: At what point ?
i'll consider it making a living when by riding your motorcycle only, you can support a house, wife, kids, have health insurance, 401k, etc...until then i'll keep teaching and riding and pushing.
Re: At what point ?
I knew for a while that i was going to make this my carrer, and ive been paying off all my debt while i had a job and now im at the point were its time to go 100% in.. I think it will be rough to start out just like any small buisness starting out but im sure after a while i can make it work.. Living in Canada health insurance is free so thats a nice deal. Right now im soo focused on my ridding that kids are not an option and a girlfriend is only there if she can put up with it. Im putting in 8 hours a day as if it were a "real" job.

Good luck at it man, I'd love to see a fellow Canadian make it big. :YEAH
Re: At what point ?

Re: At what point ?
pro.. what does it mean to be pro.. haha..
I took this **** on full time almost 2 years ago. while i dont have much, I am happy. I put about 10 hours a day into this in some way, shape, form or fashion.
I approached it in my own way, my own fashion, with my own mentalities. some hated.. some still do.. and some like it. I do what I do.. cause i honestly feel I do what i do best.. I love it.
Im not the best rider... never claimed to be. I just want to make a living doing what I love. in order to keep doing what i do at the level that I do it at.. i had to make sacrifices. like any good story I feel this industry is no different.. there will always be the rags to riches, the no guts no glory... and the failed attempts. i dont care what i end up in, in the end. as long as I do my best and help my sport that i care more about than.. pretty much anything else in my life.. succeeds..
this sport means more to me than anything.. it has ran my world since '99 and i will not let anyone ever take it from me.. hate all u want.. It just makes me stronger. I will crush u.
I love riding... I enjoy it more than anything else on earth.
I sit back and think sometimes it would be nice to just have a normal 9-5 and steady income.. but i wouldnt want to trade in any of the expieriences that this sport has given me in the past 2 years. I dont have much at all.. gave up a lot.. but I dont need much to be happy. I dont care about rims in excess of the norm. I dont care about chrome, bling, and leading a lifestyle that I am not. I dont care about living with a view, or driving a countach, or having watches made of gold, teeth of diamonds and brains of mush. I care about enjoying my life to its fullest, giving everything I do 110% making myself, my family, my friends proud, and at the end of the day.. I care about being able to tell myself i gave it my all.. I stay true to myself. I dont front, I dont fake, and I dont change for anyone.. love me or leave me.. either way im right here.
I enjoy the business side... it makes me feel great to land sponsors, to talk to promoters, to talk to potential advertisers.. I enjoy designing my website, my graphics, my posters. I LOVE setting up booths, driving from place to place.. sleeping on friends couches.. I love learning new tricks. I love doing old tricks.
sport is sport, business is business, making a living at anything takes work. no one likes work.
what gets me is the other members of this industry.
there are a few hard working, positive fun people who enjoy doing what they do and enjoy taking it to levels never thought possible. and I wish these people nothing but the highest levels of success in everything they do.. may their dreams come true!! If this sport is too succeed as an industry there MUST BE more than 2 top ranking riders and more then 2 people creating capital from it.
there are a few who have a "I am the only one" mentality, the constantly belittle, trash talk, drag down, and disrespect other riders.. fighting over peanuts. its sad.
The motorcycle industry as a whole.. is very small.. but the fishtank is large enough for many fish..
as some say.. "We are all guppies in the big sea of stunting" Ill agree with that.. I never claimed to be anything bigger...
