MXD "Track Cage" Review
I'd like to document my entire experience with MXD, from beginning to end, to help anybody else out there who is making a decision about whether or not to buy a Track Cage from MXD.
First off, let me start by saying that I am quite possibly the most pain in the *** customer on the planet. I expect a level of quality as if baby jesus made it himself, free shipping that gets here before it left, and pricing that would put the vendor out of business in a week.
So, how did MXD perform you ask? Read on...
I call Jeff one day and tell him I think I want to buy a Track Cage from him. We have a conversation where he asks me what kind of riding I do, and confirms that the Track Cage would probably be an excellent choice for me.
I PayPal him $125 (a good price for something that will actually work, unlike sliders which disintegrate). About a week later I send Jeff a PM asking if my cage has shipped yet, he says powdercoating is a little behind schedule, but he'll overnight it to me as soon as he picks it up from the powdercoater. No problem.
Anyhoo, 12 days later my track cage shows up. I didn't really expect free overnight shipping anyway, that would cost a fortune and bring the profit margin to zero at best, so it's just a minor annoyance.
Upon opening the box I notice that everything is packaged quite well... about 3-4 layers of bubble wrap on all the parts. Once I get the pieces unwrapped all feelings of annoyance quickly fade. "This thing is definitely worth the wait" I say to myself. I'm all happy and show it to my fiancee , who pretends to be excited... probably because I just bought her a $31,000 minivan today...
I grab all the parts and the cordless phone and head out to the garage for some quality time with the "black b|tch". I'm mechanically inclined, but I decide to call Jeff anyway and get a quick rundown of the installation just to make sure I done fvck anything up. Again, Jeff is very professional and helpful.
Fitment wasn't perfect for a couple of reasons. First, I think the bare pieces could have been cleaned up a little better before sending them off to powder. I used to be a Journeyman Machinist and Pipefitter, so I'm picky about burrs and sharp edges... the average Joe wouldn't know the difference. Second, the powdercoat appeared to have some runs in it that made for an extremely snug fit in one place. Again, not something that would prevent me from buying another Tack Cage from MXD, just something I observed because I am extra picky.
Installation was a total breeze from there on out. Everything lined up nice and the final product exceeded all my expectations.
Just to prove to myself that I'm not a TOTAL poser, I wheeled my bike out of the garage and set it down once on each side to get an idea of where it would end up if I wrecked. I was very nervous doing this since I just had my bike painted, but I figured if I was going to give MXD my hard earned money for their cage then I damn well better trust their product all the way.
As you probably have guessed, everything came out great. The cage totally protected my bike and the powdercoat held up with barely a scratch. Yeah, knocking it over in my driveway is not a 70 MPH highaway loop to lowside, but I have complete confidence that this product would prevent 85%-100% of damage to my bike in the event of an accident.
I have never seen a 905, FI, or Powers cage in person... but they don't make anything like this for my bike anyway... so comparing them would be moot. I can garauntee that several of the guys I ride with will be rocking this rig once they see mine... it's that pimp.
So, if you are an all-around rider that likes to do some light stunting and still rip up the twisties, I would VERY STRONGLY recommend the MXD Track Cage. This thing will kick the sh|t out of frame sliders any day of the week for a mere $50 more than you'd pay for something that probably won't work.
I apologize for not posting pics with the review, it was dark out when I finished the install and I want to get some quality shots in the sunlight so you can get a good idea of "fit and finish"

Re: MXD "Track Cage" Review
sweet, i'll be keepin the track cage in mind for a minty bike in the future... but for now, i enjoy MXD's stunt cage.
as is with your situation, powdercoating was a bit behind, but the shipping was fast enough for me to forget all about the slight delay. i opened up the hugeass box to find the two sides of the cage within, in good condition. it'd be great, but there were a few minor nicks. after slapping it on my F4i with 15 mins of my time (plastics off), and testing it, i forgot all about those nicks
there's a couple things i've noticed on the cage after a few tests, but i've sent an email to Jeff to get it all cleared up... update to follow.
anyways, the stunt cage is great and solid. i've only done some low speed tests on it, but so far its good. At this point in time, if i had the choice of cage, i'd choose MXD again.
ps. on a sidenote, i've seen the 905 and FI cages on other bikes tested... and still would choose MXD.

Hey man pimp a$$ bike, I wish they woulda had track cages when i picked up my powers cage last year, To bad i take it on and off more than i change my drawars and then when i finially got the bike lookin minty with no cage, it gets knocked over. MXD seems like one of the better ones to deal with out there..
Anyways, Where you u guys usually at in cuse?
