Re: Knee injuries and recovery.

I tore my acl completely and got the surgery where they replace it with a cadaver acl. this type of surgery is the best with the quickest recovery time. I was walking normal within 2 weeks. then after rehab i was given this brace which limits side to side movement which i wear each time i ride. before the surgery my knee used to pop and pop and it hurt like shhiiiat. sometimes i would fall like i was a retard. i would get the surgery where they replace your acl instead of graft it. i was told by the doc this is much stronger and takes less recovery. I still wear my brace when i stunt and it seems to work. knee injuries suck. my Justin

LB PM me if you want to ride peeeeace

damn. I researched alot of the different types of grafts you could get like the hamstring which supposedly gives the quickest recovery but is generally less effective, the patellar (SP) which is the longest recovery but best end results and the cadavar which is supposed to be a long recovery and good results but you can face dangers of rejection or even hepatitis.. If the brace doesnt work I was thinking of doing the patellar graft.

The brace helps but doesnt work 100%. Sometimes when I try to correct the bike when scrapin or whatever if my leg lands funny it still pops a little. Just say fugg it and get the surgery cause it will be better to take a couple months off of riding and let that knee heal rather than let it pop and get more fugged up in the future and prohibit you from ridin. To be normal again it will take at least a year. but I was ridin in 1 month. who wants to wait tricks will pass you up ....... my Peace Justin

fixed with backup! thats the way to go . the surgery is not that painful the only thing that really hurts is when u forget the pain pills before the block wears off...........I stop usein pain pills in 4 days.

tuck and roll!! not sure man but a brace seems like the best bet to protect it from even more damage stunting.

Re: Knee injuries and recovery.

I had knee surgery monday, tore my acl, pcl, mcl, patellar tendon, and meniscous. On the bright side, I had insurance (if you are stunting without insurance you are very brave indeed, or just plain stupid) and some of the best doctors available. I was stunting again after about 4 months, then had surgery 6 months after injury. Only get the grafts from a cadaver, if you take your own tissue it just weakens the donar region. I will let you know how my recovery is but in short i will say.....

Your long term health is more important, i would rather be healthy enough to play ball, or ride with my future kids, than ignore an injury now.

Get a donjoy brace, I tried the asterisk brace which was ok, but the donjoy is awesome barely know it's there. either armor extreme or legend. and dont get a custom fit one its a waste of money, unless you have an odd shaped leg. i found one from jointhealing.com for just under $500. worth every penny.

Go to PT, take it easy, do less demanding stunts, I learned sit down no handers. a dificlut stunt, but doesn't require much knee strength.

good luck bro, this **** sucks.

btw, i'm on pain medication, so sorry if this makes no sense at all.

Re: Knee injuries and recovery.

i tore my acl, busted up my meniscus and i had major cratilage detirioration from years of abuse, this all happened to me in july of 03, i got full reconstructive knee surgery ,it took me like 3 weeks till i could limp without crutches ,then 6 months of pt and i work out every day , and i ride just a hard as i ever did with no pain. my full recovery took about a full year maybe a lil less. dont get me wrong surgery and downtime sucks but if you want to be back to your full potential with no pain get it fixed now and you wont have severe arthitis by the time your 40. hit me up if ya got any questions. lata,
mike
