handle bar conversions?

Just wondering what everyone thought about them Ide make it a poll but I have no idea how to do that. Pros? Cons?

I personally dont really consider them "cheater bars" but I will say it does to me make it a stunt only bike kinda. Im aware that putting MX bars on do make it easier to wheelie because of the ergos. i also noticed that spiegler offers several bar styles just wondering input on which style is the best if there is a best.

Oh yea also info/opinions on clip-ons. Pros/Cons, clip-ons vs. MX bars, etc.

Re: handle bar conversions?

Renthals are dope, their strong & cheap incase you bend them.

As far as cheaters.. hmm. Straightening clip-ons gives the same effect. The bars give me more clearance, being 6'2" on a 600 thats always good. I love mine, wouldnt go back.

From another thread. Just a rough idea of how easy they are to fit

I used a set of Pazzaz bars and clamps.

With these bars and clamps, I used an F3 CBR600 clutch cable, managed to use the std throttle cables and just had to screw around with the wiring loom a bit.

Doesn't look bad at all!! What if you wanna keep your fairings on, will the bar hit them or get in the way

Re: handle bar conversions?

umm, personally I can't stand the look of bikes with moto bars and fairings. I think the bars would hit the fairings pretty badly and you'd need to chop them up a bit.

One thing a buddy of mine just did with his Gixxer 1000 though was to fit a set of TL1000S clipons. They're higher and his says they're much more comfortable for stunting. I've also heard of other people grinding off the stops on their clipons to bring them forward a little.

I guess right now I'm quite happy on a street fighter as I'm no where near as good as I'd like to be and can afford to dump my bike a bit without smashing plastics. Maybe in a while I'll go back to clipons and fairings.

Re: handle bar conversions?

Renthals are pretty good but i dont think dirt bars make that much of a difference. A little more comfortable but nothing major or else everyone would use them.

Bill @ Fullthrottle makes a billet piece for 929/954's. Check his site. Some bad stuff bro, its trick looking.

Also, Freestyle Ingenuity makes some kinda mounts, ask Tim. Dave & Tim of P.O.B. run them, I remember looking at his setup but cant recall details.

My friend just mounted the clamps on the flat part on his 929, that works also, but not as fancy.

You cant use a scotts with the mx bars but you can go with a top mount set up like hyperpro or other brands where it mounts near the tank.

take your clamp to a machine shop and have him make shims to even it out

Re: handle bar conversions?

i run mx bars on my 7/12, i like the extra leverage from the wide *** bars. i grew up on dirtbikes, so it just feels more natural to me i guess. that, and i can just bend em back if/when i drop the bike. clip-ons have had a tendency to just snap off.

Re: handle bar conversions?

Get high-mounts.

Ask a motocross guy at your local shop, he should know.

MSR, Renthal, White Brothers.. I'm sure those Co.'s make them.
