why a sportbike?

I have a general understanding of why sportbikes are chosen as stunt bike (power, weight, durability, etc). But I was just wondering with so many new naked bikes coming out now, a lot of which are basically striped down sportbikes is there a trend or does anything think there might be a trend in the future (when more used ones are on the market) to turn them into stunt bikes. To me it seems like a logical choice because plastics aren't really a big thing anyway and these nakeds are cheaper to start with so they'll be cheaper once they hit the used market.

what do you guys think?

I hear ya.But what they really need to do is just make streetfighter versions of existing sportbikes. It seems like the naked bikes are the manufacturers way of using up old tech. And for the price of them you would be much better off gettin' a sportbike and modifying it.Maybe someday, but as of now...no company makes a naked bike thats better than a sportbike.

Re: why a sportbike?

most of the naked bikes we get now, have been selling like crazy in europe, so naturally they are going to try here---alot of them still have carbs!!! As far as stuntbikes, they could be, if they had alot changed. I kinda wonder how a reinforced-steeltube framed, fuel injected, factory caged, stuntbike would do????

p.s.---they will most likely never build it anything like a 600 or 1,000, it would be more like a dirt bike or trial bike!

Re: why a sportbike?

Those nekkid bikes tend to be lacking in performance compared to all out sportbikes.

Re: why a sportbike?

well, naked bikes are generally...

1. heavy compared to comparable sport bikes
2. have weak frames
3. have exposed clutch covers
4. not as well balanced as a sport bike

If someone made a steel framed, light(ish), factory caged stuntbike, It'd be my first bike

It'ld be my next bike! I want something that I can throw down as hard as I can from the top of a skyscraper and be able to pick it up, start it and ride off in a wheelie.......you know a Honda, only that I could carry to the top of a skyscraper.

Re: why a sportbike?

"Naked" bikes should make good stunt bikes????

They are already fuc kin awesome stunt-bikes, but no one really stunts em cause they lack the same style as a sports-bike.

True, they haven't got Fi or as much power as a sports bike, but if you've ever wheelied one of those things, you'd know they are most stable things on the back wheel! EG, SV650, SV1000, TL1000R & S mods, CB900, Z1000.

I love wheelieing those things but i won't ever buy one cause they're just not my style!!!!

Re: why a sportbike?

Like kawa Z1000, it's really good bike, still little heavy thou. And motor is old ZX-9R lump. They should do Z636, steel frame, but with 636 motor. That would be nice.

Same with honda, why in the hell are they using Old fireblade motor in CB900(called hornet 900 in europe). They should but 954 motor in it. And put USD front too and good rear swingarm and shock.

Most experience I have from TL1000S, great wheelie bike, but it blows motors, frames crack and it's kinda heavy, at least when compared to 954.

Re: why a sportbike?

Good stuntbike:

Good Power, good brakes, reliable, cheap, parts are easy to find, plenty available, bulletproof, several years of particular make (ie; parts), over-all stuntable (ex: no plastic gastanks, no welded subframes).

What fits this criteria? 636, F4i, 900RR, 929, R6, GSX-R's

On Honda's you can swap front ends, fuel pumps, wheels, plastics all kinds of stuff. Gixxers.. **** dont even get me started on the hybrid Gixxers Ive seen out there. 636 is light, nimble, awsome brakes/suspension. R6's (1st gen) are EVERYWHERE, meaning parts/cages/used bikes are easy to find.

What are you gonna do if you own a Kawi 750?! Better not wreck it, thats for sure. No cage, no bar, long order for sprockets, $$ spare parts.

Bikes arent always chosen because of performance, but through necessity. Its cheaper to go with what the mainstream goes with. Survival of the fitest.. if a particular bike costs to much to maintain and stunt, its gone.

Re: why a sportbike?

Its an '03/'04 model then. The previous make was carbed. ('00-'02 ?) You own the second generation SV650.

Re: why a sportbike?

Most current stuntbikes were not bought for that purpose. A kid buys what looks cool and goes fast. Sportbikes are the best looking and fastest bikes avaliable. Then the kid learns how to wheelie, and therefore the sportbike becomes a stuntbike.
