Street riding with a geared bike
Hey guys...my bike is 1 down 12 up, and I'm not sure how great it will be on the street....I have ridden it a few times like that, but not enough to know what it tach's at highway speeds in 6th gear (at least I didn't pay much attention to it). I don't want to be redlining the rotten thing just cruising around down.
Just curious what setups you use/see on the street? What is recommended? The bike is setup as a stunt bike, so I'd still like a good setup on there to learn the slow stuff, but I also want to be able to go out and cruise with buddies on their stock bikes.

That's what you get when you buy a stuntbike up here near winter.....Haven't got to mess with it much.....can't wait until summer is here again.

****smak....i'm -2+8..its not bad on normal roads..just stay off the highway....and your speedo will be off by about 30mph...when my buddy is doing 55 my speedo says about 85....but wheelies are awsome!!

I've got stock gearing on my ZX9 and I'm wondering how much slower the bike will be if I'll put -1 front +2rear.
I'm still riding most of the time on the streets and it's realy fast riding so I afraid of losing to much speed(speeds over 120 aren't rare and sometimes I'm going even over 150 are normal...).
Anybody knows how much of max speed will I lose after changing my gearing?
And second question- will the difrence after changing stock to -1 and +2 will be big?
I know it will be a lot easier to lift front wheel but I also heard that the throttle control is much easier(much more smooth). Now on first gear bike is a little bit nervous when I'm riding wheelie but someone told me that after changing gearing it's almost as good on first gear as it was before changing gearing on second gear... is that true??

There are few simple reasons- I like riding fast, I'm riding very often for some short and fast trips outside the town with my friends(almost all of them are riding 900-1000 bikes and averge speed is 100or little more), I'm not even thinking about slow **** yet and there is no one in my town with real stunt bike(geared to stunt)...
So can i get the answers for my questons?

Maciek: You can find gearing calculators from the net. Just get gearing ratios and primary ratio from the manual, put them to the calculator(exel sheet actually), then you can try different compinations and see what speeds are possible. -1 +2 is really small change. Usually bikes are geared to run 170-190mph, but they cannot, because not enough thrust at highest gear. So usually little change doesn't change the top speed at all. It just revs higher at sixth.

-1 +2 is only like +5 in the rear, thats not bad at all i currently have +5 rear on my 900 that i use for both slow and highway, barley notice, its usually only off by about 10-15mph so you won't lose much

I've calculated what you said and if I did everything good it looks like if I change -1 front and +2 rear it shouldn't be more than 20mph of the max speed so it's not so bad.
But what about my second quetion? How will look like the diference betwen stock and geared like im going to change mine?
It's clear for me that it should be much more easier to start a wheelie(lift front wheel) but I'm wonderig if something more will change?

they will be alot easier to pull up in first but you're more prone to loop it cause the more torque you will have. it take some getting use to but once you do get use to it you'll fined it alot more fun and easier.

im running -1 +12 good for slows and 4th gear stand ups down the highway
