using music for a dvd
using music for a dvd
ok hopefully someone can answer this legitamatly. we have 3 local bands willing to do music for our dvd for free. but a couple members in the group are all about bustin my ***** to put a couple mainstrem songs in there. im saying its copy right infringment and we cant do it. the sport is getting out to a larger audience and thats all we need is to have our first effort squashed b/c we get sued or some dumb *** **** like that. does anyone know what the law is? can you use anything as long as you arent making money directly off of there music and using it only as back ground. please help squash this if you can so we can finish this up...i think other big name groups get to use mainstream music b/c they pay for it.
thank you
thank you

do you want it distributed?
has anyone ever been sued for using certain music?
do you think everyone has paid for everything they have ever used?

also, im thinking we will get more publicity from local bands trying to get there name out there any way they can than if we use a bunch of mainstream stuff.

I hate when the same song is in two different videos. Dont use disturbed, its outdone.
As for paying to use music, I dont know ****, but my guess is they don't get paid, OR it works as a percentage of profit, and stunters work out their finances to post a 'loss' after all of their 'expenses'

To answer the question, you certainly need to have proper rights to the music if you want your video distributed...pretty much the only way to really make money anyways. If you plan on selling the video off your website or at shows only I wouldn't worry about it. If you were to get the rights to the music it takes months and lots of $$$$...local bands is your best bet.
