Not knowing much about the hand break setup, perhaps this is a silly question... could you not mount the rear hand break backwords so you can use it with your thumb? This would solve the clutch positon problem. Just bend and cut the handbreak to size (much like the size/shape of an ATV thumb throttle). Just an idea, may or may not work... not to mention I'm not sure of the ammount of pressure your thumb would be under to operate it.

 

They make a set-up like that but you just dont get the pressure that you need
