Custom Sprocket?
Custom Sprocket?
I got a set of chrome wheels for a gixxer, but they are the billet lookin style.
THe sprocket is real thick, like a 530 or something. But anyway the sprocket on the wheel has 6 bolts holding it to the wheel. Its not like a stock gixxer set up.
Who can custom make a big sprocket like the one I have, I will probaly have to send the sprocket to them. Any help will be appreciated.

We have a guy in Virginia that made us custom steel spockets. He took the original 43 and made Marc a 54 for his bike. Let me know if this is what you want and i'll check on it.
Re: Custom Sprocket?
Talk to Sprocket Specialists, they are NOT going out of business or filing bankruptcy or anything like that. If you tell them what kind of wheel it is they probably already have the pattern. The only thing is if you want a big sprocket there may be a wait of a few weeks, that is what started all the rumors. The real issue is a shortage of sheet aluminum along with a huge increase in orders for big sprockets.

yeah go with phil just tell him what you have send the stock sprocket and tell him what you want
Re: Custom Sprocket?
You can't tell anyone you call what you want unless you know what you have.
You first need the following measurments. If you have an existing sprocket you can get these easiest by removing it and just grabbing a tape measure that measures down to AT LEAST 1/16ths of an inch.
Distance across the opening in the center of the sprocket, where it goes over the hub. Inside diameter of that opening.
Distance from the center of the hub opening we were just talking about to the center of one of the sprocket bolt holes.
Distance from the center of one sprocket bolt hole to the center of the next sprocket bolt hole either going clockwise or counter clockwise, doesn't matter they are all the same distance apart.
Obviously you need the number of bolt holes as well.
With this information any sprocket shop can look up to see if and what pattern your sprocket matches. Most of the time it'll match something they already make. In rare instances, it will not match anything they have, if that is the case good luck getting it made. I had this problem when I went to replace a sprocket for a set of Lite-Con chrome rims that are on a friends bike. Nobody had the pattern. Sprocket specialists said since it wasn't a pattern they had they wouldn't make it. Thankfully knowing the guys at Vortex, with a little convincing they went ahead and made it. They wanted the original sprocket so that it could be duplicated by the machine since my measurements are subject to human error, it took over a week to get it all done and get the bike on the road again.
Good luck.

Re: Custom Sprocket?
I'm sure the sprocket is bolted to a hub and then the hub is set into the rim with the cushdrive just like all rims. He is just saying that there are 6 bolts holding it to the hub.
Like the others said, if you remove the wheel and lay it with the sprocket side up, if you pull the sprocket up the sprocket and hub should come off the rim and inside you'll see the rubber cush drive.
Don't just send your sprocket to someone cause if they can't match it with an existing pattern, and they don't want to make a duplicate, then you spent for that shipping for nothing. If they tell you they will make a duplicate regardless, then you don't have much to lose.
If you just call them and give them the measurments and they tell you oh yeah, the measurements match up with XYZ, we make that pattern all the time, how many teeth you want on that sprocket, what pitch, we'll have it to you in a week, your set, and you didn't have to ship it to anyone.
See how it goes.
