It smokes a lot when I start it up from cold.. it's done it since I bought it and now it's getting really bad.. It'd probably fill my garage with smoke if I started it in there. It's also drinking oil. About 2 weeks after I bought it I noticed it had practically NO oil in it the bloke I bought it off done an oil + filter change the day before I bought it so it's obviously drinking oil?! I noticed this morning that the oil level has dropped significantly.

The smoke is either becuase it's running wayy too rich? or is the engine ****ed!?

If engine is ****ed then I'm going to have to break the bike and sell it in parts.. no one will buy it in 1 go and I'm gonig to be bikeless again as the KTM engine went pop after 4 weeks of owning it.. if the SV goes pop then I'm selling it and buying a car means no ZX6R stunt bike for me

 

Just had a reply about this on another forum.. seems I should have listened to the people who said don't wheely an SV650..! Bike had 38k miles on it also which probably didn't help.. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... if I ever manage to get another bike it'll prob be a cheapish ZX6R J1 can they in any way get engine problems from wheelying?! grrrrrrrr

 

not that i"ve heard,the only bikes i"ve heard you should"nt wheelie are ducatis & i"ve heard you can have probs with sv"s,i think it could be v-twins in general as you starve the front cylinder of oil.
anyways join the club,i"m gonna change the clutch on the cb & if that don"t do it,then it could be f......

I'm just gonna ride it until it goes pop completely then buy a new engine and sell it

 

damn man didnt you hear that sv's arent the way to go especially if you are doing anything long on them,

good luck getting rid of it especially with the major prob that it is an sv

 

Yeah I heard, but I can't wheely that far/long yet so I didn't think it'd do any damage... it must be where I practice a lot at a time, rather than just single long wheelies.. if that makes sense.. I'm still learning!

Going to fix it up and sell it, prob get a ZX6R J1 as my next bike and use it just for stunting! (if zx6r j1's are any good anyway??)

 

Oh although after all this some one said it MIGHT just be oil in the air box/breather pipe that'd cause it to smoke at start up .. it's a long shot but maybe that's the answer?!

I can only hope!! can't check anything till I get home from work though, altho 80% sure it's valve stem seals

 

Gahhh to make a bad day even worse.. the leathers I bought off ebay don't even remotely fit me

 

DONT BUY A CAR.. iv heard the old zx6-r are not to good when doin wheelies cause the oil pump dont pump oil where it should..iv also heard the same bout r1s and r6s but mine has all ways been fine...if i was u put in a new engine or get a blade.. there like rocks..iv never heard a bad thing said bout them.except every ones got 1.................

 

I'm getting a car anyway mate, as I need it to get my KTM race bike to track..! And also for work etc..

Think next is going to be a CBR of some sort.. hopefully an FS.. depends on money and won't be for ages looks like I'm gonna miss yet another summer of stunting

38k miles on a bikes not bad id be happy to get that on any of mine, why dont you put a motor in it if it needs one? and if its black smoke its to rich if its white smoke its oil and it may or may not need a engine get it checked out

 

Yer I am really pissed off, only bought the bike 4 weeks ago, the KTM is ****ed too and I don't have enough cash to fix the KTM let alone the SV. The SV still runs at least, just gotta ride it for a few weeks until I get my car sorted then I can fix the SV, sell it and get a CBR6 or something.

yeah i think benn's right, you sound cursed. personally if its giving you all this grief, id sell it in parts, and get myself a nice shiny (new...semi new?) bike for the summer. i wouldnt want to get a car, but if it means getting ur ktm to the track, then its kool. but all the best.
