Stock Fork Savers - For Sale - How to Included
I saw some guy on ebay selling fork savers, a metal bar that fits in the fork leg to stop them from bending. He sells them for like $40, which is such a rip off. Yes, his weigh less but I could have purchased the same type of metal and made them as well, still less than 40. I don't really care about the added weight, since it's so small. I went to home depot and purchased a piece of metal rod, which weighs less than a 1lb for both. The shortest rod I could find was 36 inches. I had enough to make two. If anyone would like to buy the other set of fork savers let me know. $6 for both plus shipping. Should be around $10 total depending on how far you live from Cincinnati, Ohio..... :YEAH
If you make your own, make sure the tubing fits snug or you will hear it raddling around when stunting. My 2003 xr50 took 8inch tubes and it doesn't rattle at all. I also put a bit of grease on the tube so it wouldn't rust as easy.
I added my heavy duty springs at the same time. Installation of these tubes should take you less than 10 minutes after you have the forks off of the bike. You remove the dust cover, c-clip, pop the fork assembly out of the fork tube, remove the pin that holds the spring to the fork leg, put in the metal bar, put back in the pin, put it back in the fork tube, put the c-lip back on, put the dust cover back on and your money. Do this for both sides. Also make sure that you put the correct assembly in the right tube or you will have to switch them after your done.... When your in the forks make sure that you have enough grease, it's a good time to do a little preventative maintenance.
