Longer throttle cable

Hey all I tried searching but didn't really find the info I was looking for. I am wondering if anyone makes a LONGer throttle cable then what the current suppliers of long throttle cables offer? Fast50's and most other places I am finding are only 2 inches longer then stock.. This doesn't seem like its gonna be enough. I would like to have about 4-5 inches longer. I have the fast50's big bar kit and had to re route my stock cable. Bought the kit used and it came with a cable but no carb cap and I couldn't make the stock cap work with it. Plus when I compared the cables the one in the kit was only about 3/4" longer then stock. So I now have the stock cable routed down by the tank but its just barely long enough I would really like to have it nice and slack with plenty of room. I just don't see how 2 inches will make that much difference.. I am just looking for a cheap "extra-long" throttle cable..

(my apologies in advance if this has been asked over and over I didn't come up with much on a search)

Thanks for the help!

Re: Longer throttle cable

Hey Man,
I Got A Bbr Handlebar Set Up, And It Works With The Stock Cable Perfectly. All I Had To Do Is Re-route(cable On Opp. Side)the Cable, And Its Loose Enough To Turn, And Not Pinch Anything.

My Buddy Has The Fast50s Set Up, And He Did The Exact Same Thing & It Worked Great!

I Was Gonna Use My Bbr Cable, But It Was Too Long! You Are Gonna Want Something Snug, That Way You Can Get Quick Throttle Control. If Its Rev'in Up By Itself, Then You Might Need A Bigger One Or U Might Have Put The Carb Cap On Wrong.thats What I Can Recommend...hope It Helps

Re: Longer throttle cable

hmm interesting. well as it is now everyonce in a while it will work itself to where when the bars are turned full left it will rev the motor. This could be real dangerous I think. If I just shake the cable loose it will straigten out and quit but this just scares me as my wife rides the bike sometimes and if she turned real hard left and it revved she would not know what to do and may loose control. I would just be happier with more slack and be able to route it the way the stock one was.

So if the cable is too long you get slow throttle response??! That blows. I'm pretty sure the carb cab is attatched to the cable correctly. That little circle retainer clip was a bitch but I got it finally.

Thanks for the response. How much longer was your bbr cable compared to stock??

**edit**
Maybe I routed the cable wrong?? Right now I have it routed down the right hand side of the bike from the bars, around the forks and up under the gas tank (like right in the area where the tank meets the frame) and to the carb. I have the adjuster out as far as possible and even had to angle my throttle down a little to get it to where it doesn't rev the engine all the time just when it gets bunched up under the tank. This was the only way I could route it to get just enough cable..

(SIT ON THE BIKE)FROM THE CARB CAP, ANGLE IT TO THE RIGHT SIDE.....AND STRAIGHT INTO THE THROTTLE. IT WONT BE WRAPPED AROUND ANYTHING, AND WILL GIVE YOU THE PLAY UR LOOKING FOR. SO THE CABLE SHOULD ALMOST RUN ON THE RIGHT HANDSIDE OF THE BOTTOM OF THE GAS TANK, STRAIGHT UP INTO THE THROTTLE.....HOPE THIS ISNT CONFUSING. IF YOU START IT FROM THE LEFT SIDE, WHICH IT SOUNDS LIKE WHERE ITS AT RIGHT NOW, IT WILL BE TOO TIGHT! CUZIN THE MOTOR TO REV WHEN YOU MAKE A SHARP TURN. TRY IT AND SEE IF IT HELPS

Re: Longer throttle cable

Well it doesn't go to the left side of the bike now it goes straight from the throttle to the right hand side of the tank (under) and to the carb. I think were on the same page there. I think maybe the bars are just a bit too tall for the stock cable. I don't have any pics that show it here at work I will post one tonight. I still just think I need a little more length to the cable.

Re: Longer throttle cable

you said you have your adjuster already all the way OUT
turn the adjuster all the way IN out means no slack and when it turns its gonna pull the throttle open did i read that right is that what you meant show me a pic

Re: Longer throttle cable

Man, ur cable looks like its smaller then usual. Instead of the cable running right underneith the tank & frame. Mine, just sits on the right hand side. it might be that your frame and tank are pinching ur cable.

Re: Longer throttle cable

Yea its a pretty snug fit.. That's why I was wondering if the 2 inch longer cables was gonna be enough extra slack or if I need more?? I'm thinking that A: I got like the last cable on the run they made that day and it was a bit short, and B: the longer cables that everyone sells that are two inches longer then stock aren't going to be enough cus that would basicly make it the length my stock was supposed to be. So I am thinking a 4 inch longer cable is what I need to get it all proper but I dunno where I can find one. Every where I go I only see 2" longer cables. :|

Just realized what I said im not adding it to my existing cable it will replace it so that was pretty dumb. The 2 inch longer cable would be 2 inches longer then what a proper length stock cable should be so that should be enough cable.

However it does seem my cable is shorter then normal?? Atleast I am correct on that end of it..

And yea Independence is pretty kool. I like it there I got ALOT of house for the money we spent and its in a nice area. I live in the Englewood shopping district. I can see the Englewood Theatre from my front porch. Its right next to the Ben Franklins Five and Dime that has been there forever. I Like it..
