I have a 1980 xr 80 that needs a coil. I'm considering using parts from it on the crf50. It looks like the bar clamp will bolt right on. I'm considering using the forks too maybe. What parts will swap? Maybe I oughtta fix so my cheap *** friends will stay off my 50.

Yeah but I figured if I could use parts off of it on the 50 and save $$ then there would be no need to fix it. The forks look like they would fit but they seem to be quite a bit longer. Right now it is on a stand so I cant really tell how long they are just sitting. They attach the same way. The bar clamp looks like it would work too. I think it has a 12" or 14" wheel in the front. Might look cool with a bigger wheel in the front. I may take it apart and see what it would take.

 

Call me a weenie, But I'd be worried about the weight that the old XR80 forks would bring, along with the rim....

 

Mr50 forks are even older and about the same size. People love them on fiddys.

 

mr 50 and xr 80 forks are not even close to the same
if you just want to canabalize the 80
use the front forks and triple use the swing arm and shocks
save the brake rods and cables and the throttle cable sell the rest or junk it
and its gonna take some modifying to do it
i did the same with an xl 70 for my z
but coils are cheaper and youll have two bikes to ride instead of one
