Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
I bid on these and won them today. I'm not even sure if they will work but i'm hoping for the best. Does anyone know if these will fit 7/8" bars?

yeah they should. Now go find an apartment complex with a bunch of bikes in the bike rack, go there at night with a wrench and get yourself a set of BMX bars. Then I guess you need a throttle tube (16$), and a brake lever/cable and you're set. Drill some holes in the upper triple plate thingy, and mount them bars in there.
Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
I've got a black bmx handlebar coming from ebay. I ordered grips and the joker billet "factory throttle" from minimoto. I should have all my pieces by next week.
Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
Those should work out for you. They look almost like the XR75 ones that i have. Get yourself some of the narrow GT style bars and you'll be money.

LMMFAO i read that 3 times... cracked me up.. go knock off some kids bicycle handlebars.... well better then me paying 14 bucks for mine... well 5 bucks and then shipping...

Dude i totaly considered doing that. In fact I saw some kid on a bmx down the street that had some nice four point bars on it. I got my mounts and my bars on but the bars are pretty plan.... might have to jog down the street with a wrench.

Hey why not, at some apt complexes, there are TONS of bikes sitting there in the rack, and it is clear NOBODY rides them....just get a wrench (probably 9/16 box end) and go to town....

if you have to drill holes in your triple clamp you are in trouble
xl sl 70 handle bar clamps work with out drilling the triple
also yamaha champ bars work great i put a renthal cross bar and pad on it
looks like custom renthals thats what everyone asks anyway hehehehehehe
had both laying around had a brain fart custom bars

Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
I mounted them yesterday, drilled a hole slightly inwards and forward. Why am I in trouble? Two holes with mounts clamped to them shouldn't weaken it that much and if it does, another stock tripple tree goes for what.... free on ebay?
Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
so what i guess i'm the only one whos ever drilled my tripple tree huh? Should I buy a new stock one and weld a plate on it or something? This thing is street only so i'm not gonna be doing back flips or anything on it...
Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
to late now you done drilled em
like i said mmmmmmmmm tasty triple clamps
i worked at a dealership for 20 years ive seen it all
tasty tasty tasty
but hey, just my opinion
and no you dont weld anything you use the right clamps
sl xl 70 from the old school days i posted a pic of it
but you already got it done so no matter now
im not flamin ya im just saying ive seen it done and what happens to people when the handle bars break off it aint real purty

Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
im not saying you cant replace the triple, im saying its to late for the one you drilled out. just because you weld some steal to something doesnt make it stronger, sometimes you can make it weaker, the heat from the welder does strange things to metal and the **** usually breaks right next to the weld
the piece you welded on is still there but the other piece is broken off
do you know what material the triple is made of? what kind of metal can you weld to it,all the ones ive seen are stamped tin,you gonna weld some more tin to it? cause if you weld steel to it your gonna melt the triple, you dont just weld something up to it, it doesnt work that way,but it may for you ,you might be a welder extrodinaire, hell i dont know.
all im saying is be carefull, check it ocasionally for cracks, and have fun riding

Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
Hey i'm just trying to figure out the best way to do this. You seem to be an expert on this crap since you've "been at a dealership for 20yrs and seen it all." Lots of people have used clamps other than xr75's. I've seen people use atv clamps and stuff too. Perhaps the bolts are all the right size to fit in the stock holes. I could have simply drilled out the stock holes a bit and used some washers to raise the mounts above the tripple. Thats the main reason i didn't mount the bars in the stock location because it was right ontop of the gooseneck, also i figured i could move the bars forward a bit and i could have the mounts closer to fit my bars better if i just drilled.
I have no idea what kinda material that tripple tree is, i'm guessing its not tin but i have no idea. Tin is pretty soft and it took a decent bit awhile to get through that tree. You know that tripple isn't too complicated either, i could just cut a new piece of steel to fit and make my own tripple mount.
I'm just looking for peoples opinions and experience so i appreciate the comments, though i would like more than one persons opinions if anyone else out there has put new mounts on theirs.

Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
chances are the top of that thing is Aluminum. I doubt he could have weakened it THAT much. Only one way to find out, eh????!!!!! Ride hard!
Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
no i checked its stamped sheet metal if your carefull you can weld on it
not a tin magnesium like i thought but i still wouldnt drill or weld on it my self
i go alot faster and jump **** and crash i dont want my bars comming off when i crash and impailing my chest or someother part of my body
footpegs and levers are bad enough but i guess some people gotta learn the hard way i had to learn that way too
rip and tear without despair

Re: Anyone know if these will work for handle bar mounts
Most of the time you do not want to weld on a factory stamped piece of steel. OEM stuff is low grade **** too keep costs down, and is full of deposits and pockets that heat will only make worse. Not at the spot you are bracing, but more like out away from it, usually wherever the heat ring ends. (the colored ring you get around a weld).
Aftermarket stuff is mostly alot of cold-rolled steel to squeeze the imperfections out.
