88cc or 110cc --- Which upgrade should I do?
88cc or 110cc --- Which upgrade should I do?
I plan on road racing my 50, mini motard style. Does anyone know how fast there 88cc motor will pull the xr50, my 50 cc goes about 35mph. Also, does anyone have one 100+cc, how fast will it go?
Thanks,
Jon

my takegawa 88 w/cam is geared one down in the front and it'll do 40mph on flat ground, and i'm a lightweight too. so i don't know, but it all depends on how your sprockets are setup, i can wheelie just by hittin the gas.

I just built a 110 out of my fiddy. You have to do some major sprocket and gearing changes if you want to go fast. I put in the 4 speed rotary trani. It works great for urban assults. I like it now that I am used to it. At 46mph on the gps, it hits the stock rev limiter at about half throttle once it is going. It gets there rather quickly, pulls all the way until more throttle only makes more noise. (4th gear and 15/37) I am sure that it would break 60 with the right gearing... at the exspense of some acceleration. You have to remember the engine is only going to spin 9,800 rpm's unless you have an aftermarket rev box. I will put one on after I am sure the thing is not going to explode between my legs.
As for the performance of the 110, it almost acts like a two stroke. It does not really like low rpm's. Pings a little. (12.5 to 1 comp) Once you have it opened up, it is a 100lbs death missile. If you know that you are going to do a tight track, the 88 might be the best way to go. The amount of torque gained by the larger arm of the crank is outstanding. If you are going to be larger track where you can slow down, the 110 is the way to go.
I think for stunting the 110 is a bit of overkill. It is too finniky, the power is either on or off. Wheelies are easy, just roll the throttle. Just not pretty. There is alot of hastle behind building a 110. Not that it is hard, just a hastle to do for the first time. (If you do build a 110 and put in the tx, get an old ct70 front sprocket, the xr50 one will no longer fit. It sucks having to wait to get one.)
Get your parts from the little guys. Their stuff is just as good and costs way less.

For my 110 I got...
Crank, piston (old dome type), front sprocket, valve adjustment caps, and transmission from dratv.com
Head, cyl, cam, carb from Mike at hondatrailbikes
Clutch from Ron at http://www.xtremeracing50s.com/ he helped me out alot, he has everything so talk to him first
The reason that I built the 110 was my parent's neighbor's klx 110. Since I am in the Army, judgement day will be the next major holiday when I get to go home.
Things I still want to do; heavy cam chain, oil cooler, and rev box.
