new filter/carb - but what about water?!?
i recently put my pc20 carb on and takegawa paper cone type filter, but now i'm worried about getting it wet and all. i used to hose the fiddy off hardcore when it got covered in mud and gunk, and a lotta times i'll just leave it locked up in the p/u truck and i take it wherever i go (i try to ride whenever possible, and i'm lazy). but if it ever rained all i'd have to do is lube the chain once i got it out again, but now what? WTF am i gonna do to protect the filter from getting all soggy and wet? it makes it even worse that it's jutting out to the left side of the bike now too... someone gimme an idea, if they don't sell anything then maybe i'd be paraniod enough to fabricate something. thanks.

yo dude...i moved my jet needle clip 3 down and the bike is running really rich..duh, but it feels stronger on the wheelies.
wait till you see my new forks.
this weekend, Fiddy jumping...actually we need to get some shovels and go make some as well.
hit me up
dont worry about the water, if you jump it into a lake you have something to worry about...but moisture is something that is always in the system and in the air.
alittle condensation wont hurt it at all. id recommend to fabricate a plate to block it from the tires spewing it up while going through puddles but the oil that paper air filters use blocks some of that **** out. get the K N air filter prep at any car parts store.
YOU ARE A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS ****!

Step 2-Find a "Free Clinic"
Step 3- Pick up free condoms (unlubed are preferred)
Step 4-Put condom over filter when you think it may get wet.
i have a better idea. reach deep down in yer pocket. pull out that baggy filled with your freshest nuggs. roll all of it up into a big fat spliff. take that baggy and stick that thing right over the filter. at this point light the joint.
proceed to wash bike like u normally would. cant get any simpler than that.

If you get that filter wet you risk ruining your whole engine. A little water down on the inside of that thing will rust it all up and then your screwed. And if you stick a bag or a condom over it your not gonna get any air at all, only do that whne you wash it. As for rain dont ride. Thats my 2 cents.

and the cool thing about it I got a fresh new baggy every day for my fiddy and me
I powerwash mine and clean it every time it gets the slightest bit dirty.
All I do is put a plastic sandwhich bag over the carb and rubberband it shut tight.
As for riding in the rain it doesn't seem to mind at all.

ok so i did some research and found the answer, you (i) need to get a 'filter wrap' or outerwear. they're thin sleeves that go over the filter and block out water and dirt. K&N sells them and this place called outerwear (recommended by sik50s).

www.outerwears.net
oh yeah and they cost $5-10, so it's worth a try, i think running an open filter on a dirtbike doesn't make sense, the intake needs more protection than that...

Water sucks
I can vouch for water spoiling your evening. I was out in the snow for a few hours and the bike starting running like ****.
Had to put it away and take turns riding my girls stock fiddy. Later found out that the K+N was soaked w/ water

Re: new filter/carb - but what about water?!?
Gotta keep a few in the shop in case that happens. Outerwears are a good idea, I've used them on my quads. They make a water repellent one so ask for it. Water won't hurt it, I trail ride all the time. Hydrolocked my 50 last summer. Pulled the plug, changed the oil when I got home, good to go. Keep it clean and keep up on your maintenance and it will out live you. It's a Honda.
