Thumbs up Good tranny info inside

ok, this is for all of u who are stuck on whether or not they want a 4 speed.. here all all the final gear ratios (at the the trans output before sprockets) of both the 3 speed and 4 speed trans.

4 SPEED...

1ST.. 10.92:1
2ND.. 7.39:1
3RD.. 5.28:1
4TH.. 4.22:1

3 SPEED...

1ST.. 13.28:1
2ND.. 6.74:1
3RD.. 4.83:1

with this info u can see that a 4 speed wont make u much faster in the top. its basically just 4 short gears instead of 3 longer ones. u also miss out on that really low 1st gear that the 3 speed offers. remember that these are ratios BEFORE the sprockets, so things can always be changed (like faster up top or slower down low). hope this info helps some of ya.

i had a feeling u would chime in. LOL thanx on the avatar by the way. here it goes... a 4 speed in a stock fiddy SUCKS ***. its a tiny bit faster, but u lose the super low 1st gear. when u go to a big bore however, it is THE $HIT. its really so hard to explain, u just need to come out and ride one of ours. i set one of em up with a 15 tooth front and a stock rear with a 88cc takegawa kit and that thing does every bit of 55mph. NO $****. its just a whole different ball game. u can ride 3rd gear wheelies at 40+mph and still be able to ride slow ones cuz the big bore is so torquey.

i am going to take you up on that offer when you ride next

the offer of riding one of yours lol

I am debating whether to put the 4 speed in after I do the 88 kit

if I do the 88 kit

I should do the 4 speed and what sprocket? stock?

I want speed for fun on the city streets and neighborhoods for exploring and ****

but I also want good low end for woolies

u should do the 4 speed before or at the same time as the 88. the entire motor has to come apart for this so that would be stupid to do it afterwards. i would run a 15 up front. the 88 has the tourqe needed for slow wheelies and at the same time the horsepower to pull that 15 tooth. i put that same set up on my buddies fiddy and we clocked him doin 53 mph. its fast

yeah

I'll either do the 4 speed before or at the same time as the 88 kit

but how much will it suck with a 4 speed and the 50cc?

I mean it won't scream that much when pegged on long street trips.

I can't wait for me and my dood(2BITRDR) to get the 88 kit to go o some long distance trips around town, I think we'll both get the 4 speed as well, just so one of us doesn't have to keep their hand out of the gas as much, or is it that much of a difference?

with the 3 speed and 4 speed?

peace

Hey fab5fiddy, are you refering to CT70 4 speed. I was just wondering because after I swapped the 4 speed into mine. The bike seemed ride same way as it did before with the exception of 4th/overdrive. 3rd gear topspeeds seem to be the same with both trannys.

Fab, is the 3 speed ratios you posted from the 3 speed versions of the ct,xl,cl,sl. They could be different from the xr`s 3 speed ratios. I think the fiddy is advertised as having a close ratio 3-speed tans. My bike seems to the biggest gap between gears on the 3-4 shift. It revs out 3rd effortlessly. 4th definitly takes ALOT more engine power to rev out .

Thanks for the welcome guys

Here is a short drive by video. The first bike(weedracer) has stock gearing. My bike has a 15 tooth front sprocket and of course 4th gear. The vid doesn`t do it much justice but I have 15mph on him. The extra tooth probably accounts for 2-3mph of that. IMO its worth it. I can cruise a low rpm in 4th and match his 3rd topspeed.

driveby
