Problems with my Z?

I put a new air filter in my Z yesterday... One of the higher flow ones. The bike is running 10 times better all around. But wide open in 3rd gear will occasionally crackle a little bit and lose power for a split second. We adjusted the air/fuel mixture and even put a whole new set of carbs on.. Any ideas what might be causing this?

If you already have a rev box then its probably valve float. Thats when the valves loose contact with the cam. The intake valve and exhaust valve can actually be open at the same time for split second causing a sputter. Its caused from high RPM and weak valve springs. It won`t hurt fiddy. Just back off the throttle a touch while in top gear or take the head off and change to stiffer valve springs.

60 main jet will solve your problem.

It's getting too much air and needs more fuel.

Oh I thought you had the rev box on there and it was already reving cleanly past the stock redline. Start with a new sparkplug and go up in main jet size until the insulator is nice cocoa brown.
