The truth behind the aftermarket exposed

Here is the truth behind some of the products that these aftermaket companies are trying to sell us for hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
There is only a small increase in performance between the Takegawa regular head and the super head. Same goes for Kitaco and their X-head vs superX head. What they don`t want you to know is that the regular head and the x-head are basically the same exact head that can found on a Honda CT70. It may be shared with other machines as well, I`m not sure. Sik 50`s sells the x-head for $500. An old CT can be found for much less than that. This pic is of the x-head. The same head I put on my bike from an old CT70.

Clutch kit

Sik 50`s and Beatrice cycle sells basically the same clutch kit for moderately built engines. Sik 50`s= $500 Beatrice cycle= $199(not bad). That is the same clutch kit I have on my bike from a CT70.

As for the the 4-speed from a CT70 that is in my bike, the only thing I could find that was close to it was the 4-speed that Beatrice cycle sells for $270 (not a bad deal really). The only difference is that their tranny can be shifted into neutral after 4th gear n-1-2-3-4-n. The CT tranny will not go into neutral if it is shifted into 4th twice. With the money I saved by buying a $250 basket case 4-speed CT70 I bought a 52mm stoker crank and a carb. Its now one hell of a machine. Yep, somebody is going to hospital this summer. Hopefully this helps some of you fellow fiddy riders out there.

Here is the parts and part numbers I used to build my xr110. Everything with a part number I bought from here http://dratv.com
oil pump $40 #200030
cam $38 #200034
52mm stoker crank $200 #200001
52mm(88cc) piston $48 #100042
52mm(88cc) cylinder $100 #100012 I had one already
HD valve springs $14 #200031
gasket set $20 #200015

20mm carb I had this already from my 88cc kit. I would have gone with a 22mm or maybe a 24mm if I had known I was going to build this engine 2 months ago. After some jetting the 20 is running great though. Carbs are usually @$200-$240

Anyone who thinks they might like to try this should be relieved to know that the crank bearings are NOT pressed into the cases on either bike. The cases actually split quite easily

I know that this might be seem to be very expensive, But to get this much performance from an after market kit you need to spend thousands.

It don't take a genius to figure out that a 50 and a 70 use (for the most part) the same engine. Except the tranny, which for old Ct70's and z50's were 3 speeds and rarely some Ct70's were 4 speeds. I myself have thought many times about taking a top-end off one my 70's and putting it on my 50. If you want a tranny with a shift pattern of 1-n-2-3-4, then thats different because thats a newer transmission. But if all you want is more displacement, then pull one off a parts bike. Heck, you can take a whole 70 engine and slam it in a 50.

Your right Jimbo, in reality this stuff is pretty easy, But not everyone knows that. If you don`t do your homework though, the swap will not go smoothly. All of these 50/70 engines since 68 have a 41.4mm stoke crankshafts, But different years and bikes use different lengh connecting rods. So if you take the whole top end off of an older 70(probably a short rod engine) and slap it onto a long rod latemodel 50, you are going to run into a problem. Now you could use the whole 70 engine. I personally wouldn`t do unless the 70 was a new CDI type. Points suck and the older points type ignition engines cannot be upgraded to CDI unless you change the the crankshaft.

KelOne333, I`m pretty sure that the xr70 swingarm will bolt on to the fiddy and the forks might need a set of custom set of triple clamps. I don`t know , But BBR uses xr70 forks on their bikes.

wee50, You can`t put one of those heads on without other modifications. It would have very little compression and probably wouldn`t even run. The whole engine would bolt right in though without modification.

from what i heard. the swinger bolts up fine.. the forks you need the 70 upper and lower triple for that.. need some brake line mod to the lower fork leg i think...
