can't break nut on front axle!!!
can't break nut on front axle!!!
Got my street tires and got the rear on after about a gallon of sweat! ,then after removing the mud gaurds on my front forks, I can't break the friggin' axle nut. Tried vice grip, cresent ratchet w/ a steel pipe for leverage. Stumped! Hav'nt stripped them too bad yet ,so I stopped before total hackage. Is it the loc-tite? Should I heat them with a torch or some ****?
Re: can't break nut on front axle!!!
don't put a torch to it use a socket and an impact gun.....
it's a long ride but if you want to come up and ride tomorrow i will break it loose for you if you come up a little early

There shouldn't be lock tite . The nut is a locknut though .
Take your bike to a walmart or gas station with a auto shop . Go back to the shop area and ask a mechanic if he will loosen it for you ,
for a couple of dollars . It should take him 2 seconds . Give him like 5 bucks . He might even do it for free .
Then go to Sears and get the right size wrench , a 3/8 inch drive ratchet with a long handle , and a 3/8 inch drive , long socket .
The end of the bolt should be a size 14mm (for the wrench) , and the nut should be a 19mm (for the socket) .
To make sure those are the sizes , bring the nut and bolt to the store . Or ask the mechanic when he loosens it .
Make sure the wrench you buy has a 6 point box end , and the socket is 6 point .
Also make sure you buy a 3/8 drive regular chrome craftsman long socket and not a 1/2 drive or a impact socket .
If you ever get rear stunt pegs , the 3/8 drive chrome long socket is thinner and will fit through the peg to get to the nut and bolt .
You might also need an extention .

Re: can't break nut on front axle!!!
thanx d,I have some stunt pegs off a bmx bike.I want to use the,but the thread size is too small for my rear axle.should I get a longer axle bolt and drill out the pegs? or should I just get the pro one's on 50 stunt.com? they look tight with angled cuts and built on chain tensioner! ******' expensive though!
