I was doing some trail riding, was in 3rd gear and I went to down shift to 2nd but I hit a bump and accidently went down to 1st so the engine rev'd pretty high. Then all of a sudden when I tried to get on the gas the bike just quit. Started it back up and it did the same thing. Only way I was able to make it back was to turn the choke on halfway, the bike would run but still tried to turn off if you gave it to much gas. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to start at? The engine is stock other than a k&n airfilter and a breather kit.

 

Check your spark plug, see how it looks...

 

Plug looks ok. I checked the fuel line to make sure it wasnt clogged or anything, it was ok. I started it up again and like I said with the choke fully on it will rev like its supoose to, and with the choke off it quits.

OP - open up your carb and check it out on the inside. clean the needle and seat out. also clean the jets.

what kind of carb is it? what kind of bike? when i got my 125 the stock carb did the same thing, i threw a mikuni on there and never worried about it again.

 

Its a 2000 xr50 with the stock carb.

 

pull the float bowl and clean the jets you probably sucked something into a jet
if you have to turn the choke on it is running lean
