fork, carb, stator/electric help needed

First of all let me explane what I am doing. I am stationed in Japan for the next 3 years, and traffic is getting to me. I need something to get through traffic quicker then my car. Also the mileage I get with my fiddy is MUCH better then the 1330cc in my car. For this conversion, I am going to need lights, signals, switches, stator, speedo, tires, and mirrors. I currently have lined up the switches, mirrors, signals lights, and tires. Now, onto my questions...

Fork;
What is the difference between the Z50 head tube/headset/fork head tube length/diameter and the one used for a XR50? Monkey upgrade parts are a dime a dozen here.

Carb;
Since I got my bike out of the shipping crate from the US, I have been dumping fuel out the drain tube when the drain **** is open with motor off, and at idle. at WOT and cruising there is no leaking. I am guessing I am overflowing the float bowl, but how do I fix this?

Stator/electric;
I have the distructions on how to wind my stator, but the place the reccomend "Mouser Electronics" stopped carrying 18awg magnet wire. Everywhere I find it has a min order required. Since I am paying extra for the shipment to Japan, I don't want to order 30lb of **** I don't need or want. Does anyone have enough wire lying around to do a stator, if so how much, and could you ship via USPS priority... if so paypal.. how much???
I need to wire in a brake light switch for my foot and hand brake. How do you do this.. I am about as dumb as they come for motorcycle stuff.

Re: fork, carb, stator/electric help needed

that all depends. 90% of the parts I have gathered have been used, so I am only about $150 into the project. I am forking out $1500 for a yamaha motorscooter for my wife. This leaves the pocket books a bit dry. Nothing with any quality can be had for what it will take to make the fiddy street legal. Plus with the purchase of something new, I have to go through a big hassle to get it inspected, JCI, road tax, and insurance. Where with my own bike, that cuts costs, and time needed to get it on the road (legal sense)

Carb issue fixed, my needle valve was stuck, unstuck it, and no more leaks!

umm, when i was doin my stator i couldnt find any either, and for some reason radio shack doesnt sell that size anymore either. what i ened up doin, there is a shop in the next town over that rebuilds altenators n generators n stuff like that, which are the same as stators. so i went and bumbed some wire off the old guy who does it and i ended up gettin mine for free.

If I can't find any at the electronics market in Tokyo, I will take you on that offer. I stationed in Japan, but shipping is to 96338 which is in SF. I will paypal ya $10 for the shipping via USPS priority.

wiring the stator will do nothing for a brake light you need to find a monkey wiring harness cause to run the brake light your gonna want a battery.
as far as the forks between a monkey and an xr they are different look at the wheels totally different as far as width of tire ,and size of tire one is an 8 one is a 10

if you wire your stator, you can easily just wire 2 wire comin off of the voltage regulator becuase it makes enough power to do both of em. all you need to find is one of the spring sensors that big streetbikes use and hook that up to the brake lever. or you could just easily find a monkey wiring harness cuase it would have the blinkers n neverthing too im just sayin you dont need to.

Re: fork, carb, stator/electric help needed

I don't know if a monkey harness will work because of the different in sizes. I am not afraid of wiring it myself and making a harness. It's only stator, to voltage regulator, blinkers, flasher unit, switches, etc. I will most likely end up wiring up a small fuze block off the voltage regulator, and wire it the right way. This bike is going to be fun.

So, with the fact that they make monkey parts with 8/10/12" wheels, I am back to the orignal question... is the monkey head tube the same as the XR50 head tube? I will worry about fork length, clearance, and brakes, I just need the sizes.

If nobody knows, I will do a bit more research tommrow, and post my findings. I may end up just putting out how to, to make the bike street legal.

if you find a monkey wiring harness and wire your own stator you can just hook it up to the stator and throw on some blinkers n lights and youll be all set

yes, but they are called the "Zoomer" here. They are about 178,000 yen, so about $1700. They come in green, orange, yellow, and a couple other colors.

Re: fork, carb, stator/electric help needed

the steering head size is the same
its the width of the tire im talking about
a monkey wheel will not work in a crf/xr fork and vise versa
with out some heavy modifications
if you like buying bulbs then by all means dont run a battery

I got my first real close look at a monkey/gorilla yesterday. Pulled the battery cover off, and took a looksie inside. The wiring harness should be easy to go, and I am thinking the fork might be able to be retrofitted. The stantion tubes are of the same construction, as well as the upper tree. I just need the upper legs so I can mount a set of lights/speedo. Throttle, and light switch are aneeded too. The battery is about the size of a strike anywhere match box, so we are fine with that, it can hide under the seat of my bike. My rear billet wheel is on it's way finally... so now I just need to get the wire, and start building this thing up.
