hondaminitrail engine upgrade questions
I have an 88 kit on one fiddy and can never get the thing tuned right. I have another stock fiddy and it always runs sweet. I was thinking of switching the 88 out for a 110 engine from Classic Honda (www.hondaminitrail.com). It apparently has 6.5HP, but i don't know how much more that is than stock . ..
anyone have any experience with the Hondaminitrail 110 (with 4spd manual clutch) or 100 (3 spee auto clutch) engine upgrades?
anyone know how many HP a stock fiddy puts out?
cheers, rob

if you cant tune it, why not just take it to somebody who knows what theyre doing. be cheaper. not really that hard to do either, the bike will tell you what to do

my stocker runs so sweet I'm thinking a stock Honda 110 with a 4spd manual cluth should run sweet for years and years
anyone have experience with the 110s listed on hondaminitrail.com?
... or the 100s?

then a stock motor wouldnt be any different. the laws of physics still apply to a stock motor. higher altitudes require leaner jetting, so get it running slightly on the lean side, should be a happy medium.
btw, it wont be a stock honda anything, stock honda is 50cc. i think those are chinese motors theyre sellin or dai ichi or whatever. learn to tune what you got is the best option

Mt 88 big bore with 18mm carb is really tempromental. My stock fiddy starts first kick and runs clean every time, every place.
I had a fiddy mechanic look at my 88 and he changed the jet, but after a few hours of running its running like crap in the midrange. I'd been told that bored out 50s could be a real hassel to tune, and that I might never be able to get it running spot on ... that's where I started looking at larger "stock" motors...
The 110cc "stock" motor with 4sp manual cluth sounds good, but if its a cheap piece of Chinese crap that's going to break down, then that's no good ...
I love my stock fiddy and will always keep that stock, but i want my second fiddy to be all bling, nice and fast AND as reliable as hell.
Can a better carb with more adjustments help to keep the thing in tune? Any other suggestions for the 88 to make it run better?
and, What do you think my best motor and gearbox option is for a fast fiddy?
Re: hondaminitrail engine upgrade questions
sounds to me like yer "honda mechanic" fed you with some bullshit because he couldnt figure out how to get it running right. i can assure you that an 88cc with an 18mm carb and 85 main jet WILL run flawless and be just as reliable as a stock 50. before even screwing with the carb, i would check to make sure a few things are correct...
1. cam timing. flywheel on "T" and cam sprocket "O" lined up EXACTLY with the notch in the head.
2. ground wire. make sure the ground that was removed to take offf stock filter is CLEAN and TIGHT.
now that both those things are checked and double checked you can go onto playing with the carb.
a 110 is nothing more than a stroked 88 so i dont understand how anyone can tell you it will be easier to tune. and the carbs that come with those chinese motors belong on a lawnmower, so finding jets and tuning will be a real hassle.
dont spend any money. the 88 you have will be fine once its tuned up. i know it can be a hassle but just take yer time and read before you start playing with things you dont understand. these minor things will far outweigh all the bullshit you will be dealing with after you purchase a 110. now git-r-done.

Re: hondaminitrail engine upgrade questions
after you do what he said, read this
http://www.motocross.com/motoprof/mo...1/carb101.html
that pretty much sums it up and should help you understand the carburetor. go buy a couple new plugs, that will make diagnosing it much easier. the plug will tell you whats going on
