Thumbs down Had my first crash

Well yesterday 10/9/04 I had my first crash. I came around a corner to fast and the bike slide out from me. I went down on my left side. The bike skid across the road and up onto a the curb. I went about halfway with the bike and then somehow I ended up coming off of it. I ended up hitting a stop sign myself and then stopped on the curb. Opposite the bike. I really thought I was paralyzed I felt my whole back crack and take a major shocking pain. It took me two tries to get up. I finally got up, walked over to the bike picked it up after 3 or 4 tries and walked it down to a dead end street. I could feel my ankle wanting to come up of place as I walked. My adreline was going so much that I just kept pushing it till I felt comfortable at the end of the street. Anyways an hour and a half later my girl and my friends finally found me. I ended up going to the ER. I was talking normally and joking around but was in pain. I ended up very lucky, I have a small hair line fracture in my left ankle and its really swollen, road rash on my left *** cheek, few scrapes on my knees and major bruises on my back. I am in pain but it could be much much worse.I pretty much will just hang on my couch for the next 2 or 3 days playing video games :YEAH Thank god for helmets and leathers if I wasnt wearing my gear I dont know if I'd be talking with you guys now. As for the bike my rear tail section is busted, shifter is busted lower fairing is cracked, stator cover is pushed in (bike wouldnt start) High beam light is staying dented left part of gas tank. I can say that my frame slider did its job though cause it could of been worse and I think some other small stuff. I really havent had a chance to check it out yet. O well I figured I'd share my first experience I am alive and will ride another day :YEAH

Re: Had my first crash

Yeah, its crazy how much adrenaline gets going after you crash, glad you walked away from it. That must have been a long *** hour and a half sitting there. Did anybody see/stop to see if you were ok? The first thing on my mind when i crashed was to push my bike 'away from the scene', but my bike started. (looped a standup at ~45mph). My ankels swelled up and looked like lumpy softballs the next day, and I had some minor road rash.

Well, heal up, and learn to slow down earlier for corners. :YEAH

Re: Had my first crash

Someone drove by me as I was picking the bike off of the ground, but didn't stop or ask if I was ok or anything. By the time I had the bike at the end of the street, everything looked normal.
My ankle looks like a softball too. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Had my first crash

Glad you walked away in relatively good shape! Hope you still plan on riding again. I know after my first 2 crashes I had second thoughts about riding, but it has become a much needed addiction. How fast were u going?

Re: Had my first crash

I am really not sure how fast I was going, if I were to guess between 55 and 65mph. I was doing something that I am not proud of doing. I definetly plan on riding again, I am actually selling the bike for less than I planned to over the winter to get something bigger.

Re: Had my first crash

well me first bad wreck wasnt on a bike...it was on a blaster lol...i used to suck at riding a quad...lol some say i still do but em. anyways, i had it like 4th gear pinned, and the field i was in, had like 3 or 4 foot wood posts, about 6x6 in diameter, and they were round. so i began drifting, and panicked. hit the pole, flew off the quad, flew down about 6 or 7 posts, shoes and helmet flew off, and my back slammed into the post. im a pretty big guy, so wheni hit the post, it pushed it out of the ground some. it was pretty fkin crazy, im lucky i didnt break my back. all that got messed up was my ankle, and i have no idea how that happend.

Crashing is nothing to be ashamed of man, **** happens. 110% of riders crash. There a few types of riders...those that have been down, those that will go down, and third we dont need to mention. If you want a bigger bike I would definetly recomend a GSXR-750, good balance of power and agility.

Re: Had my first crash

Yeah, we've all been down. I got lucky and had the old 5mph slide-out through a slow sandy corner. Learned alot even through that. Amazing how much damage can happen at such slow speeds. Rashed both ankles, both knees, jammed left shoulder, and my left *** cheek looked like a bowl of Lucky Charms. All the colors of the rainbow. Certainly forces you to respect the bike, if you didn't before.
Glad you're OK and are still ready to hop back in the saddle.

Re: Had my first crash

Me too. Came through OK though. Held my first 12 for about 10 feet till my muffler hit on the right and I went down on the left. Local kids loved it. A little roadrash will remind you quick why you should wear gear. *** swelled and leg filled with blood, turned black from knee to waist. Had to be drained. Out there again two days later. But Glad to hear you're OK. Keep rockin. :YEAH

Re: Had my first crash

i had a bad crash on my quad too. just doin a regular wheelie and i tried shiftin from 2nd to 3rd while doin the wheelie and it just poped back and threw me right off. when i landed i hit my leg against the ground and heard it snap. i looked down at my leg and it was twisted and messed up. went to the hospital and they said i broke both bones in my leg. 2 months later i still have rods in and im wearin a big *** boot the rods should come out soon though. i just thank god it wasnt like my neck or anythin. cant wait to get back on and ride.

Re: Had my first crash

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear all you guys that crashed are okay too . I cant wait to get back on. I have been buying the parts I need off of ebay. I spent about $400 and the bike is ready again to ride. I thought the bike wouldnt start but after a few days she fired right up and ran perfect. I got really lucky in that part too. FRAME SLIDERS do WORK :YEAH I will never have a bike without them. That definetly kept the damage on the bike to a minimal. I have a pic if someone would tell me how to host it.
