Technical problem please assist
Technical problem please assist
Lately everytime I start my bike..It idles around 4rpms .....I tried messing with the choke ...it appears to be doing nothing even when I try to put it on before I start it. I also tried messing with the idle control near the engine and that also appears to be doing nothing...other than that it seems to be running fine I would just prefer not to have it idleing so high. Any ideas or some help to fix this would be greatly appreciated thanks
Re: Technical problem please assist
does the idle adjust affect the idle at all? Is it even connected? U can pull the tank on a bike real easy, if you want to get down to the carbs and look to see if its still hooked up.
Re: Technical problem please assist
I'd pull the tank/airbox off, check your cables. How well is your throttle releasing? Something could be binding up etc..... Since it is an older bike, might look into replacing the cables if they are causing any problems at all.
Re: Technical problem please assist
yeah, to pull the tank. its usually two bolts (1 front/1 rear) ...then lift the tank up a little...i just wedge a piece of wood to keep it up so i can get my hand up there to disconnect the fuel line, then there should be a vacuum line going from the petcock to the motor...disconnect that too.
*note*Technically fuel shouldnt flow if there is no vacuum to that line, but make sure the shut-off valve is set to 'off' anyways.
Take the tank and set it somewhere, you'll be able to see the airbox. It will usually come off in a couple pieces, just undo the screws as you come to them. Dont drop anything into the carbs (cover them with a rag or somthing), then you should be able to see the cables, the idle adjust is basically just a flex-shaft running to the idle adjustment screw on the carb, if you turn it, and see the screw turning...then thats probly not your problem. Check to make sure the choke linkage is operating smoothly & not stuck, lube the cables (you can usually buy a little needle type thing that squirts oil in there at a bike shop just ask them), then hopefully your **** will run better. If you think you fixed it, you can start the bike with no fuel tank on it. The carb bowls will still have enough fuel in them to run the bike for a couple minutes.
.yeah...not sure if that helps, but i tried lol. :YEAH
