Okay, so I wanna take up racing...

Yep, I'm looking into it (roadracing a bike). Thing is, I dont know ANYBODY who has any experience in it, and I don't know sh*t about the rules and stuff. Basically, it's just an idea that I needa build on. So anyways, I'm thinking about picking up an 03 r6 or something...Definately a 600cc anyways. But what should I know? What do all the flags mean? How do I go about getting into races? Do I need sponsors? Yeah, I need it all explained...

Also, what should I look for in a bike? Does the title matter? cuz if it doesnt, I could get a salvage r6 for cheap, sell the plastics, and slap on some race bodywork (which I'm pretty sure is cheaper than factory?) How hard is it to safety wire all the bolts? (or whatever it is you do?) Do you hire somebody else to do it, or is it something I hafta do?

Thanks!

p.s. I would post this in racer's corner, but there's only one post in there, so I'm thinking thats a pretty dead board...And I am planning to take a racing school as soon as my funds provide (and I get ahold of a bike they'll let me use...)

Try sportbikes.net...........although never mention the word "wheelie" or you will be banned They're a bunch of baffoons, but know a little more about the racing side rather than general riding. I don't know where up north is for you, but here's an example of a group for track days. It has a ton of info on bike rules and set-ups to make your ride legal for track riding. http://trackoholics.com/

This will get you started. Schools, track days, racing organizations. Say goodby to your discretionary income and good luck with the sponsor thing.

i dont race but i know a guy that is building a track and hes a bad *** racer. they are all cocky so expect to get some **** talked to you. as for a bike. i was told to get an sv650 and put some race plastics on it. they are fast and cheap. never been on one but i have been told this many times from dif people.

there are cones that are at each turn. they are for breaking points. like they put three cones about 100yds, 2 cones 75 yds, and 1 cone 50 yds from the turn.

you need to cover your headlight and duct tape all wiring and brake fluids. you should get a full system, new rearsets, and new brake lines at least.

as far as rules, each track has their own set

check out his website

Sportbikes.net has been having some prbs with their site.
BUt lots of riders on there hit the track. I've thought about doing it, but really haven't attempted to do it.
