Coolant warning

Hey all,

about 3000 miles ago I did some engine work and in the process I replaced my coolant. The stuff I put in was called Engine Ice, and came highly recomended. Well as I said 3000 miles and 2 months later and I couldn't be more upset. First of all the company claims that your engine will run 10 degrees cooler, well that is some serious B.S. my motor ran actually a little bit hotter than normal. Plus at the end of each ride you can hear the coolant boiling and sometimes even purging. Again,,,not happy. Last night I started to go out for an evening ride, thank God I checked my temp gauge cause it suddenly jumped from 230 degrees to 250!! At that point the bike began to act up, I shut her down right away and pushed it home. After inspecting everything I found the thermostat was gummed shut from this "Engine Ice" crap. If I hadn't caught it I would have been buying a motor this morning.

So a good word to the wise, run factory coolant because this aftermaket stuff is aweful. You'll comprimise your cooling system if you use it.

Re: Coolant warning

Drain the coolant out, ad a mostly water mixture and reg. anti-freeze in...ride it...drain that, and then put whatever mixutre of reg. anti-freeze in you run. Also change your plugs, I was told to run that **** in my quad when I bought it last year and thank god it was under warranty. I had nothing but trouble with Engine Ice, it made the header pipes glow, and the bike ran like ****. Went through plugs like crazy. I had them flush out the system, change plugs etc... and after that had no problems. Engine ice sucks

Re: Coolant warning

If you didnt flush out the old coolant before you added engien ice, taht would have done it too. Engine Ice cooled the motors that I have seen. MY .02$

Re: Coolant warning

I ran it in my 900 and now my 929. The 900 ran 6-7 deg cooler while stunting and the 929 like 5. The bike also cools off in an instant just rollin around the parking lot. It is designed to lower 'race' temps. My bike does run cooler on the highway.
I totally drained and flushed the system with water then drained all the water i could. Filled it than ran with the cap off for a bit blipping the throttle till the level dropped then topped it off. After a day I sucked out the radiator and refilled with new stuff cuz it got diluted a little from water left in the system.
The only thing I can think of is you have air trapped in the system..this will make the bike run alot hotter since air does'nt transfer heat

I agree. You need to do a complete flush using the Engine Ice first then fill back up with new Engine Ice. You also need to "prime" the water pump and make sure you get out all of the air in the system. Never had a problem.

As far as it causing plugs to foul????? Please explain that one.

Re: Coolant warning

i think you have air in your system.....if the system is properly bled with the factory 15psi radiator cap that means water won't boil until 265 degrees (water with 15psi of pressure on it won't boil until 265, the pressure on the water raises the boiling temp) so therefore only being at 250 degrees you won't hear water boiling, but you would hear air moving around in your radiator if you have air bubbles in it. and that would make the temps jump up and down really fast, like one minute just be 210 then do like a 5 degree jump all at once.

make sure you do something properly before you knock the product. i've never seen engine ice work poorly in a properly maintained system. it's actually really good stuff and i recommend it 100%. but like everything, it won't work right if you screw something up like leaving air in the system.
