I have a chance to get a Buell XB12 Firebolt for $5500 its off a guy who bought it and decided he did not like it. I have never riden a Buell and I would just go test drive it but he is 6 hours away and I don't want to make the trip down if the bike is a peice of crap!

Anyone ever ridden a Buell and opnions?

The price is $5500 because it is a family friend. Has about 2500- 3500 miles can't remember the exact #.

There is a post from a while back about 'stunting buells' or somthing. Do a search for it. The guy said they have great amounts of torque, brakes are pretty good, but they arent very 'solid'. **** breaks on them, and he had bolts & parts falling off all the time. There is on big time guy with a factory sponsered ride from buell and he stunts the ***** out of that thing.

I would buy a honda, but if you want to be different. Go for it.

 

my friends bro works in the r&d dpt for buell.. there is nothing buell about that bike except the name on the tank....and they make him a new one after almost every "show" he does..i think his name is Craig Jones...

 

I had a 01 x1 lightning for a year. Blew a head gasket, voltage regulator went out (all under warranty) sht fell off constantly even after being locktighted,
getting parts sucked too, had to wait forever ( airbox cover backordered for 2 months). Traded that pos for the gixxer and never looked back!

 

a friend of mine had one...rode it pretty hard, put alot of $$ in it, and still just wasnt anything like they claimed it would be,I road with him a few times and I got sick of hearing him hit the revlimiter every time he got on it
baa...baa...baa... I say if you want it buy it,but I guess it really depends on what you want it for if its just to cruise around on then you'd be ok, but dont expect to be able to do what a sportbike can do

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they are actually nice bikes. I rode one Saturday night, didn’t get to push it very hard, but just before I rode it another SL member, was doing some stand-ups and indos on it. This was les than a minute after the first time he had ever been on one as well, so it seams fair to say that they stunt well stock. By the way the stand-ups were about 30 mph w/o clutch. He didn’t push it hard, it is a friends bike, and he was standing there.

 

But it still has that Harley background..

 

Don't the big 12s still only make like 103 horsepower? Comeon my any 500cc bike nowadays makes much more than that!

I test rode a xb9 firebolt with the race kit (sounded sweet) but thought that is was way underpowered and the throttle response was terrible. It had to be ridden up in the r's, extremely light and nimble, braking sucked ***, fun little bike though!

 

i have commented on these things a few times. i think they look badass and when you put some cash into it and install the race kit they sound beefy, just like a harley. but the 1203cc motor only makes just over 100 hp. you could get that power out of an f4. i see you can get one for $5500, thats all they should cost brand new. if they did i would consider one just to fart around with, but i wouldnt stunt it. it would probably crumble. buell gets about $11k for those things brand new. you could buy a gixxer1k for that much cash and get 10 times the bike.

I just got back from test riding a XB9R(with race kit) and a stock XB12R.I wasn't too impressed with either of them.....the 12R has crazy torque tho.The best thing about them is the brakes.....they are SICK. I am going to see if i can put one of the rims on my bike.
But for that kind of deal, you can always sell it and make a little more money.
