running on 3 cylinders

98 900rr sounds like its running on 3 cylinders. put in new sparkplugs with no change. when it gets higher up in the rpms it runs fine but if i'm not on the throttle its back to 3 cylinders. Any ideas?

My ZX7R did that for awhile until i put new gas in it. THen it was fine. But that sounds ghetto and is annoying as hell to ride on. Oh well it might be something as simple as bad gas or something like the timing is off so 1 might be misfiring but im not sure man.

Mine was doing that there for awhile, it's bogs at a lower RPM? I changed the plugs and **** too but didnt help. Actually it was doing it due to the fuel filter, my 98 doesnt have an intank fuel filter like it should so due to a dirty fuel filter and to long of hose I had the same problem you had....

Carbs could already be plugged/gummed up. Try some gas treatment that you just add when you fill up. If that doesn't work I'd say pull the carbs and check your jets

Had a similar problem with my VTR last year... tried everything from gas, pump, filter, carbs, to plugs... no luck. After a few weeks of , found out that it was one of the coils... got a new one and she ran fine after that.

Just my experience..

That's the wonderful thing about bikes........it could be one thing, or another. Just gotta trouble-shoot until you find it. My guess is since it runs when he has it on a higher throttle setting is the low-speed jets are clogged. This can happen obviously with the gummed up old gas or just dirt in the system. Good Luck
