Ridin in the Rain...

have any of you been stuck in the rain? How does the bike handle? have you ever lost control? etc....i know they are newbie questions, but for a guy that plans on buying a bike they are somewhat important...

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

The first 15 minutes you gotta be careful, the oil is still on top of the water, but after that it pretty much doesnt matter much until high speed when you can hydroplane, only thing is it ****ing hurts to be going 50 mph and getting pelted by water.

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

if you dont have to ride when it is forecasted to rain, then dont......The roads are really slick, fun but slick. Just make sure you do everything slower in the rain, I know it sounds stupid but you would be amazed how many people dont realize you have to slow down bc of rain

Yeah, it's alright when it's warm. The worst part is the stinging you get down the highway if you didn't prepare. Yeah it's a little bit slicker like mentioned above, but it's not as bad as you think. Biggest thing is watch out for puddles..........bike hydroplaning would not be pretty.

i alway keep what is called a mni coat on my bike at all times its like a throw away rain jacket and it only takes up the room of a wallet its compacted into a small pouch about 5 in by 5 in and maybe a 1/4 in thick it work great aginst the stinging pain rain cause at 50 and not to mention its cheap about 2 bucks i think i also think you can get them at home depot

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

Man, I ride in the rain all the time. Doesn't phase me anymore. Just when its 25 degrees out and it starts freezing on my visor, that sucks. I rode in hail once. That really sucked. Never hydroplaned. Even with a rear tire showin cords.

Rain isn't too bad, here in Az it's the dumbass drivers who think their huge boat-like caddies are going to stop in the same distance.

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

Ive been caught out in some bad storms before. Just go slow, sux when u get soak n wet and cold, but its kinda fun too. My rear tire would slip a lil on turns, so take turns real easy. My front tire slipped out from under me in a turn once to, caught it just in time tho. Its alot easier to asphalt surf tho, shoes slide like nothin.

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

It sucks but it's tolerable. I have been caught in some killer downpours in the summer. Hey speaking of what is the best way to clean a rusted chain w/out screwing it up??

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

tx, i figured cause of the threading in the tires on bikes is diff from cars and they look more likely to hydroplan...

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

be careful like they said, but it is not as bad as you think, i think the water pelting is worse, a little tip, turn your head when your helmet visor gets soaked and the wind will blow the water drops all off your visor

ive never had my bike hydroplane even at 100+ if your that fast be tucked and the water wont even be on your visor
just take an easy when it first starts i had michilion sports and they hooked up good
now i got a 207 now that sukka hooks up in the cold and rain...haha rolling burnouts without the front brake

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

here in the uk we dont have a choice... if we wanna ride we have to get wet!!... i too run d207rr tyres,, they stick like **** to a blanket , even in the wet..... my advice to wet weather riding is to stay relaxed, dont tense up. you can ride just as easy in the wet as in the dry.you can still get good grip with the right tyres, good lean angles etc...... do a track day in the wet its fun, and you learn quick what you and the bike can do.....

Re: Ridin in the Rain...

different brands of the same application of tyre (race or street compound sport) are usually within 20 bucks of each other in the same sizes, and brand new a 180/55 zr17 would run about 170 bucks, so there you go, but most stunters get their **** used, track day takeoffs, or find them in a dumpster haha j/k

the price for d207rr tyres aint bad, if you get some get the rr not the standard, if you ride sensible expect about 3500miles , if you do tracks etc expect about 2000-2500mls
