Got the Reckless Driving ticket today

Yup. Wheelie. Past a Cop on a Harley I guess. He was pretty pissed because I guess he thought I was doing it to **** him off. Those guys don't seem to realize that I concentrate on what's in front of me rather than what's at a redlight on a cross street. I thought I was going to jail.
Anyway of course 2 more cops show up (as they love to do). A cop in an SUV actually pulled me over. The Harley guy comes up "Get the **** off of the bike." Throws me over the hood, does the search. I'm like "greeeeeeat." The guy in the SUV was like "You were gonna run weren't ya..." I didn't think it would be wise to say "If I was gona run, you dumbasses would be driving around scratching your heads..." So I said "no, I wasn't...." (but in hindsight I wish I had).
So, reckless driving. And operating a bike with out an endorsement, which I'll get thrown out because I have a New York motorcycle lisence, but somehow when I got my Florida ID Card the bumb bitch actually gave me a drivers lisence with just an eye exam and I kept my New York lisence and blah blah blah etc.
HOWEVER, I noticed on both tickets he wrote down that my tag was a Florida plate when it's actually a New York plate. Same number, wrong state. I thought cops had to get everything right to a Tee on those tickets or they can be thrown out of court for not following procedure.
So my question: Is that my get out of jail free card, so to speak? Also, what's a ticket for Reckless Driving go for these days? Thanx in advance.

Re: Got the Reckless Driving ticket today

i have that going on right now. get a lawyer or you'll get ****ed.

my case got continued so i'm still waiting. i wouldn't go to that court without a lawyer though. they might be able to get it thrown out with that license plate problem too. see what the lawyer says.

i know in indiana it's 6 points on your license and looks bad when they pull you over. talk about insurance rates going up.

I think I might get a lawyer for this one. I don't know how much time I have though, because he didn't write a court date on the ticket. He just wrote "To Be Set." Is this like a $200 ticket or alot more than that? I really have NO money right now (so you should all buy some titanium heel plates when they come out!!).

Re: Got the Reckless Driving ticket today

You should be able to get out of all that *****. I was in court and some woman was in there for a speeding ticket and the cop wrote male instead of female and the judge threw it out. So....your cop got a bunch of stuff wrong so you should be free and clear.

Re: Got the Reckless Driving ticket today

Boy I hope that wrong plate thing works out for me. $250 ain't that bad though, and I don't really care about the points so much. I'll have to research about the wrong plate. I'll get back to you if I find anything.

Re: Got the Reckless Driving ticket today

When I got my 'Wreckless Driving and Endangering Safety' ticket for doing a wheelie I got it reduced to a $50 'Driving with an Obstructed View' ticket with $130 in court costs. This was due to a couple of things. Partly because the ticket was almost completely illegible (even the courts top copy). Partly because the cop fugged up royally on labeling the bikes. He said I was riding my buddies bike and my buddy was riding mine. He also didn't make it clear which one of us was doing something wrong (there was no way he could of saw me do a wheelie but he got my friend red handed).

I would say get a lawyer and have him tell you whats up. I got my lawyer two days before my initial court date and he was able to take care of everything real nice so don't worry about limited time.

You might also want to find out if you got your ticket as a traffic violation or if they charged you with a crime. In Wisconsin if you get a wreckless driving ticket it can be a misdemeaner and you can serve jail time. You can tell up here because they will give you a court date that you have to attend if it is a crime. Any time you don't have to attend court you are not being charged with a crime.

I'm pretty sure it's a crime. It says I have to go to court. I've decided I gotta go the lawyer route; just don't ask me how I'm gonna pay for it. Maybe I can sell coke for one of th kids on campus who were driving buy as I was getting ready to go to jail for doing a wheelie.

That sucks man. It was a lot less stressful knowing the worst that could happen was my paying a fine. Good luck.

Re: Got the Reckless Driving ticket today

it's a class B misdemeanor, so it's a crime. you can serve up to 180 days jail with it and some huge fines. i wouldn't do anything without a lawyer. even trying to get a dismisal on wrong information won't go over without a lawyer that knows the specifics on the law.

and it's 6 points on the license in indiana....which is a huge deal. that's a jump in insurance, and that means for 3 years if you get more than 1 speeding ticket you lose your license (speeding=2 points, 10 points is loss of license for 6 months).

Wow I'm glad I don't live in Indiana. It's up to 90 days in jail and $500 in Florida. Quite frankly, I would live to hear of someone who spent 3 months in jail for doing a wheelie.

But, I'm definitely going the lawyer route, just gotta find one I can afford.

A guy in Arizona didn't do three months but he did time for a wheelie. This was a couple of years ago. I think he got either a weekend or a week in the pokey. Any jail time sucks.

The judge made him cut his long hair before he went in also.

Re: Got the Reckless Driving ticket today

ya, i got it in a big county so chances are i won't serve jail time because they have better things to do. you get caught in a small county and they have nothing better to do than **** with you.

like public intox, most of the time it's just a fine, but the county south of mine, they sentenced a guy on first offense for 112 days at county jail for public intox....first offense. damn that's harsh.
