Build your own bike

Has anyonw ever built thier own bike form the ground up? I am thinking of it but am not sure what I would be getting myself into... I would think it would be fairly easy putting the swingarm, and subframe on but I am not sure about hooking up the engine and all it's components..... Just wondering if anyone has done this and how much mechanical experience do you have and how long did it take?

Thanks

My buddy put an F2 together that way. It was a pain in the *** and took him awhile. Some parts were a bitch to find. If you have the time it's worth it for the sense of accomplishment. I have a shitload of 929 parts so I'm thinking of doing it now. I ended up with 4 swingarms for a 929 if anyone wants one.

I have done it a couple times.. As long as you have somebody to help you put the motor in, you should be able to get it done in about 5-6 hours. Its pretty straight fwd.. You dont really even need a manual. Unless you have a torque wrench, then its nice to torque everything down like you are supposed to. Get some blue threadlock.

I tore my 98 900 RR down to the Frame and polished the frame and swingarm It was a lot of fun. If you like to work on your bike its no problem would do it again. My friend and I tore it down in about 2 hours, if you have the right tools.

I would like to build either a 929, F4i, F3, or a GSXR but I am not sure about any yet, what does every one think?

What about the wiring? I know when I changed the head light on my VFR, there where like 8 different cables all long and all mounted in the most complicated fasion imaginable. Is it like that on new sport bikes?

i built my RR and have changed out the motor 4 times all of them by myself. i just used a car jack to lift and align it. on most bikes wiring is simple. it took me about 4 months, only because i was short on funds and had to wait for parts to come it. i enjoyed building it and doubt ill ever sell it. heres mine:
