what helmet to protect me?

i do not want to go cheap on a helmet... but are the "cheaper" helmets really a difference in protection?
im not a stupid rider, usually obtain speedlimits and some parking lot stunting.
but i do not want to have to risk my head for a helmet that is not good. if something did happen

Please point me in the right direction!

Thanks guys

Re: what helmet to protect me?

yes .. dont go to cheap .. ull b alright with a $100 hjc but dont buy a 40-50 dollar helmet
try em both on and if u cant tell the difference then , well , u better be able to tell the difference
u can get a real good icon, hjc, or even a shoei helmet in the $100 -$200 range

Re: what helmet to protect me?

Shoei makes really nice helmets. My first was an RF 700 back in the day. For me it comes down to comfort. The protection may be a little better with the expensive helmets but the comfort is head and shoulders above the cheap ones. I ended up with an Arai RX7 most recently. I wanted another Shoei but none of the ones I tried on were comparable in comfort to my previous helmets. The only helmet I could find that I liked was the Arai. I didn't want to spend $500 on a helmet but I'm not sacrificing comfort for a few hundred dollars. Make sure you can try on any helmet you are considering. I've done the mail order thing before and always got burned. I also have a very large head so that may have something to do with it.

Re: what helmet to protect me?

I tried on a couple arai's because I loved the style and it didn't fit me right. The shoei rf1000 and rd1100 fit me much better. I can get a plain white rf1100 for like 360 but I may beat them down a little more

Order one and make sure there's a return policy. A shop by me carries them, so I tried it on there.

Arais come in different shapes but if the Shoei is comfy, I would go for that and save some cash.

Re: what helmet to protect me?

the helmet of choice for me is scorpion, they have some cheaper helmets and they are fit nice to me. the one i got was under 200 bucks, the place i usually get my stuff from is motorcyclesuperstore.com. they have tons of products, good prices, and shipping is super fast.

Re: what helmet to protect me?

A 100 helmet will probably protect you the same as a more expensive one. The quality of the helmet is what you are paying for. I have a 13 year old Arai that I still use

Re: what helmet to protect me?

i have an ICON helmet and i love it, it is comfortable and pretty good on the noise resistance. when u get into the higher dollar amount the main factor is comfort, durability and how long it will last.my ICON is DOT and SNELL approved along with looking bad ***

It doesn't take much to meet DOT. There are half helmets that don't even cover your ears that meet DOT specs.
