handbrake help?
handbrake help?
i have an 02 gsxr 600 with an 04gsxr master cyclinder, steel braided lines, and gp tech simple handbrake adapter. the claiper is only a 1 piston. ive got it all hooked up but when i use the handbrake its not a grabby as the foot brake. i cant lock up the rear like i can with the foot brake or even get it to bring me back from past balance point with one finger. my question is, with an adapter is this normal or do i need to bleed the brakes more to get it as grabby as the rear foot pedal.
Re: handbrake help?
this might help you....... its from a pm i sent a dude who bought one of my HB's i sold a while back, who wasnt sure how to bleed his HB.

here a lot of info for you. the thread below is one of the better "how to's" that i have found, and it helped me a lot when i fisrst started needed to do thing years back!!!

also i always have a freind help me bleed brakes. its way easier.
i also use a handheld automotive vacuum pump at the bleeder valve to assit me with the bleed. and i tap the master, line and caliper with a screwdirver, socket wrench, or metal object buring and in btween bleeding. i bleed and bleed..... ride a bit and bleed again.
i run a hohey 4 piston set up, but remember your handbrake is only as good as you bleed it.
check out this thread too. it has some good info.

Re: handbrake help?
it seems like all the air is out becasue the lever is firm but it doesnt grab like the rear does. im heading to the garage now to re bleed it. thanks for the replies.
Re: handbrake help?
probably the combination of using a cheap master cylinder, with an adapter
I currently run a 1000rr radial master with a junction valve on my f4i, and my hand brake sucks ***. Wont lock the rear wheel unless I pull in the clutch and use ALL my force
Also anothing thing you gotta consider, your pushing with your FOOT on the foot brake, and ONE finger on the hand brake.. Try activating your foot brake with 1 finger, probably doesn't work so well

Re: handbrake help?
+1 ive had a master like the original poster is using and it blows you just have to get used to it, then i got a 1000rr master and works pretty good a little stronger than the non radial ****...now im building a new bike and ive got a FTi Dual quad setup with the 1000rr (so far, planning on a brembo or magura 16mm soon).
still running my shitty adapter and 1000rr master together, sucks ***, I think it's definitely holding me back. My friends brembo and 4 piston his 636 is ******* BOSS

Re: handbrake help?
Cant wait to get my f4i together
