Sportbikes and ABATE

A little while ago a member of ABATE (Ken, who is a writer for Examiner.com) came to another forum and asked a rather interesting question. He said to us that ABATE had a extremely low membership from the sportbike crowd. He wanted to know exactly "why?". Why is it that sportbikers dont get involved with ABATE? We answered him in the best way we could, but i am curious as to what the answers around here would be if this question was posed.

Here was his original post...

I have an ulterior reason for joining this forum, however. I'm a writer and I write about motorcycles and motorcycling. One of the things I do is write for Examiner.com, where I am their national Motorcycle Examiner. What I would like to do is make this forum a portal into the sport bike world. For instance, I did an article recently about Jon Kuo, a racer who is also an ABATE rider trainer and who had been sponsored as a racer by ABATE. In the article, which I feel is unfortunately one-sided, the ABATE folks talk about the organization's inability to get much traction with the sport bike community. I'd really like to publish a follow-up article to this presenting the feelings and opinions of the sport bikers toward ABATE and their efforts.
I'd also like to be able to touch in here from time to time to ask you guys about other issues I'm planning to write about. So how does that sound to you all? Anyone care to be the first to respond to the Jon Kuo article?
Once again, i have no affiliation with him or ABATE. I just want to read some of your responses to the matter and share them. Thanks.

Re: Sportbikes and ABATE

ABATE...no thanks. I am perfectly happy rockin a lid when I ride; I don't really care if there is a helmet law. ABATE si not really interested in doing anything for the sportbike community, but they want our support (money)? give me a ******* break. They put a **** ton of effort into getting rid of the helmet laws but what about other things which matter more to sportbike riders. I would like to have someone lobby for lane splitting.

I have been to a couple of ABATE meetings; bunch of ******* RUBs that look down their nose at us because we do not have chromed out HD. I guess they have to go out of their way to hate sport bikers a little more to try living up to that image of a 1%er over the weekend before they have to put the suite and tie back on come Monday morning. ******* Doctors and Lawers that think $20,000 and 500 miles a season will make them real bikers. **** them and **** ABATE.

Re: Sportbikes and ABATE

ABATE is all harley guys that act like douchebags. Most sportbike riders have little or no respect for harley riders and vice versa.
