bike revs real high upon initial startup?

My 98 gsx-r 600 revs up real high upon first starting it (like 6-8000)

After a few seconds or revving it up the idle will drop to 1500

What could be causing this?

damn thats a good one, sounds like your needle is way too rich, i don't know too much about bike motors but on a carbureted car it would be the accelerator pump, but i think the needle is the equivilant to that, either that or the floats too high

???? probly not, check for binding cables(both throttles/choke ) or somthing int. in the carbs(like a leaking needle and seat)- "After a few seconds or revving it up the idle will drop to 1500" you revving it, or it revs itself down?

"you revving it, or it revs itself down?"

sounds to me like one of your choke pulls are sticking open and loading up on startup.
