Re: motorcycle oil or mobil one is there a diffrence
a resounding **** no to car oil!!
it WORKS.. yes.. but it's not designed for use with a wt clutch or to stand up to the shearing of the trans in action.
i like repsol.. as well, i kinda have to.. it's what we sell at my shop.. they're one of only a VERY few companies that oversees EVERY single fckng thing.. from extraction to refinement to packaging and shipping.. EVERYTHING.. so they have awesome Q.C. on thier ****.. motul, elf, bel-ray.. theres alot of good oils out there.. it's a personal preference.. but as far as car oil in a bike.. eh.. like i said.. it'll work, but the additives for use with a wet clutch do not exist in them. fine in a pinch tho. but i'd suggest a change after getting where you need to go if you find yourself low.
full syn has alot of claimes of improving shift feel.. don't use it with a new or rebuilt motor with fresh rings.. they'll never break in and seat, leading to compressin loss and blow-by and ring skidding/flutter.
some cats see the clutch slipping with a switch to syn.. thats usually because of a slight glazing on the plates.. easily fixed by scuffing the plates with 600 grit or replacing it or stepping up the stack height or shimming the springs .020" or so..

Re: motorcycle oil or mobil one is there a diffrence
No car oil. There is something else in motorcycle oil (zinc maybe) that is there for the clutch and trans. I have heard of people using Rotella (Shell diesel oil) because it has the same stuff in it.
Re: motorcycle oil or mobil one is there a diffrence
The Mobil 1 I mentioned is good to use in a bike, I know a lot of racers that use it in their street and race bikes, it is not an energy conserving oil which it will work in bikes
Heres some analysis on some oils
http://www.hooliganbiketech.net/hond...frameindex.htm click on oil analysis
Ive dug pretty deep into oils and I know car oil is not to be used in a bike but I assure you the Mobil1 EP (Gold Cap) is better than "Honda" oil (which is proven to no better than a walmart oil) and holds well past the life of Repsol...Im about 200 miles into my switch (on my 1000rr) to Mobil1 EP (had Respol 4T prior to this change, which is a great oil and my second choice for oil to use) and so far I notice a big difference, firmer/smoother shifts, pulls harder on low/mid/high end also.....it already has me making the switch in my f4i

Tell that to my f4i with a stock clutch and 34k miles
I use synthetic car oil that is energy conserving!
Oh, and my f4i has ONLY seen cheap car oil from walmart from 12k - 34k, with $2.50 super tech filters
My friend that uses honda oil on every change, has 14k on his 600rr, his clutch is gone
Re: motorcycle oil or mobil one is there a diffrence
I only run Amsoil 10-40 Motorcycle Synthetic in my bikes; I've been told the same thing as others in this thread have posted; Automotive Grade oils use friction modifiers which are supposed to hurt the wet clutches that our sportbikes use. That alone made me stay away from it.
