Guys with 98 or OLDER RR's

Hey have any of you needed to replace your clutches yet? I'm curious because I've had mine out and the friction disks look like they are in phenomenal shape for a 97, but they don't grab for anything and slip like all hell in 2nd gear. I am just curious before I go spend $150 tomorrow and it doesn't fix my problem.

yeah, my 1996 had the same prob. I think I roasted it doing rolling burnouts. But yeah, It wouldn't grab either. I never fixed it, just sold my bike.

I'm on my 3rd clutch this season, I pop the clutch all day long but it seems as soon as I start rolling burnouts, bam, total slippage. it's so much cheaper not to do burnouts.

yeah, I torture my bike and ive got 15,000 + HARD miles on my stock clutch. Slips alittle standing up 2nd, and alot standing 3rd. But holds good still for 1st & burnouts.

I ordered a brand new clutch & springs & plates right from honda. hopefully I can get another 15k otta it

I only changed my clutch once- I used a stock clutch with barnet springs. The best of both worlds! I beat the hell out of it and it never slipped.

Barnett springs

A couple years ago my ZX7R clutch started slippin', I was a little low on cash so I just replaced the stock springs with barnett springs and it worked like new again. It lasted for a long time too, in fact when I changed the motor the clutch was still going strong. I'm on a SRAD now and it has diaphragm springs, I think those are stronger...

if your clutch is slipping... take it out and look at it, if it looks ok, and isnt burnt or anything, find a service manual and get the measurement of the clutch springs and measure them.... chances are the clutch is fine, but the clutch springs are worn out, when they lose strength, they cant put enough pressure on the clutch pack, and it slips....

Barnett h/d clutch springs are nice.... but they're hell on clutch cables, and your left arm... i couldnt get used to clutching it with the heavy duty springs in it, i put stockers back in it, and right back up with the big boys... and for those of you that say stock clutch plates are best.... and that all the aftermarket clutches are ****.... my bike has 14,000 on it when i bought it, i replaced the clutches with Barnett Kevlar plates, and new steels.... that was 12,000 miles ago, with drag launches, clutching wheelies, burnouts, all of it.... it hasnt slipped a bit since.

I had 15,000 on my stock clutch. The last plate in the basket was broken in 6 pieces. I put a barnett in with the heavy duty springs. I ride a twin so there's mad torque on the clutch. That barnett clutch never slips. I am happy with it.

I replaced mine with factory clutch and barnett springs Friday, but... wrecked my bike doin a christ (don't ask) LoL Now I gotta do some creative fiberglass work on the upper and get a new windscreen. Damn rural mailboxes.... only mailbox for 20 miles and my bike see's a reason to hit it... go figure...
