Advice on digital camcorder for filming ?

I am wanting to purchase a good camcorder for footage of stuntin and be able to use movie editing software to work with it on my puter.

I have an old analog cam that i used for a while, but the resolution is so shitty, that's it's really not worth putting in the time.

I have been told several things from others who do this.

I have been told that I need a mini DV cam, one that will have night shot on it, one that has 500+ lines of resolution (or something), I just want it to be clear and crisp while watching it on the computer (resolution of the camera?)

HELP !!

I want to be able to edit it and still have full screen capabilities, and burn it onto DVD's from my computer.

I am running XP
2.66 P4
1024 Ram
160 gig H/D
132 Graphics
DVD burner, ROM,
CD burner, ROM

Soundblaster Audigy sound card with the s-video input

And my video card has a IE 1394 on it also

I'm looking to spend between 600-900 bucks for a camera

Thanks,
Mike

I have a tvr-22 sony ($700) it has sweet resolution, really light weight and has full digital capacity if you buy a big memory stick. I talked to a lot of people before buying my camera and sony or acannon is your best bet. I like the sony because of the touch sceen controls and the cannons in that price didn't have still shots and digital memory. These two companies are the ony ones that make prof quality cameras so their lower level cameras have technology that others dont have. Good luck !

I haven't. I need to get a edit program. When I edit onto VHS the piture is pimp. The camera has a s-video output so on the tv the picture lookes pro as long as you have good lightingwhen you are filming. The picture looks like a real video made by pros.

Digital Camcorder

Hey man i have a DV camera that i use to film stunts and riding, and then we download to the computer and add background music, Transitions, and all kinds of other stuff like that. The camera is a ****** ZR45MC, and last time i saw they ran about 499-599, depending on where you find it. It has night shot, more zoom than you will ever need, and it has a resolution that is close to that of a dvd video. It's a great camera, and does everything that i could ask of it. One thing to think about when you are gonna download video on to your pc is that it takes up a lot of memory. To download in good quality, you are lookingat 12.9 gigabytes per hour of video. That fills up a Hard Drive pretty fast. As far as software goes, i have Adobe Premier 6.0, it's easy to use and lets you do about everything you can think of. It takes some time to get used to though. I bought a for dummies type book and it helps a ton. Lemme know if you have questions. Later

i would recomend a 3-ccd camera. it keeps the colors running together. however there are alot of non 3ccd cams out there. i think there is a sony trv 35. not sure if that is the model number or not.

nick hill is right, 3CCD cameras are the best way to go. they use a single chip dedicated to each color (red, blue, green).

however, for your use, if it's not for a DVD you plan to sell and market, i would say a single chip camera is fine.

you can buy an older panasonic PV-DV400 or DV401 on ebay for $300 or maybe even less. This will be plenty for home use, and all miniDV's have the same reasolution (in the sense that they are all 720x480).. it's really a matter of how many pixels within that resolution they record. the DV400 has something like a 380,000 pixel chip, which is fine for your use. Something like a canon GL-2 has *3* 410,000 pixel chips, so you can see how a $2200 camera is much nicer than a $300 (on ebay) one.. but for consumer use, most people wouldnt be able to tell the different between the picture.

a cheaper camera won't let you have all the manual features you want for a professional video (apeture, ae shift, etc etc).. but i wouldnt sweat it.

I would just like to shoot footage, pull it to the hard drive, edit, add music, names, etc.....and burn it onto DVD's for some friends. Not mass production or anything, I just want the quality resolution that you can watch full screen on a computer or a TV and it looks like TV. Without having to make the media player window so small that you have to squint to see it clearly.

And again if you can offer any advice on anything, I'd appreciate it. I'm running the following:

XP
2.66 P4
1024 Ram
160 gig H/D
132 Graphics
DVD burner, ROM,
CD burner, ROM

Soundblaster Audigy sound card with the s-video input

And my video card has a IE 1394 on it also

I have some Pinnacle software also that I bought with the system for future use (now).......

Thanks in advance
